Although Marie was missing Lily, Lily did not return the same feelings.

Deborah and Logan's death gave Lily a headache. After their death, Lily had nothing else left. Lily felt annoyed when faced with the two crying babies. She had always been an unsympathetic person, and she would not allow two children to drag her down. In the end, she placed them in an orphanage and left.

Steven originally needed to be monitored, but due to his health condition, he was allowed to have a pretrial release in order to treat his sickness. Lily went to visit him under the identity of his daughter.

Lily told Steven about how bad her life had become and cried. Seeing that Lily was dressed in simple clothes and she looked weak, Steven's heart softened. He did not know that Lily was deliberately lying to him to gain his sympathy.

Steven was completely convinced that Lily was his daughter. When Deborah had returned with Lily, he had done a paternity test, and it proved that Lily was indeed his daughter. Deborah's death was the result of her own deeds, but Lily was innocent.

Steven even felt that Lily's character was not all that bad. If she had not been corrupted by Deborah in the past, perhaps she would have been a kind child like Irene.

With that thought in mind, Steven tried to help Lily.

All of Steven's assets had been confiscated, and the only possession that he had left were the traditional paintings that he had given to Edric from before. Those paintings were initially his gift to Edric for marrying Irene, but now Steven thought that he should try to persuade Irene to pass the paintings to Lily.

When Irene went to the hospital to visit Steven, he mentioned Lily and the traditional paintings. He told Irene that he wanted Irene to pass the paintings to Lily, or at least give her some money so that she could live comfortably.

Although Irene did not care much about money, Steven's request frustrated her. Those traditional paintings had been originally Dave's and were shamelessly taken away by Steven. Thus, how dare he suggest for her to pass them to Lily? Irene could not help but ask, "Speaking of the paintings, I have something to ask you. You always said that those paintings have been passed down from your family. Is that true?"

Steven answered awkwardly, "Of course they've been passed down from my family. Otherwise, how would I have obtained such valuable things?"

Irene did not expect that Steven was still trying to quibble at that point. She had never mentioned it before because she did not want to embarrass Steven, but at that moment, she no longer cared. Steven's words and actions had hurt her. She sneered and said, "Those traditional paintings had originally belonged to my uncle. What makes you think you have the right to handle them? Steven's face turned red upon Irene's questioning. He begged in a low voice, "Irene, I really pity Lily. She's only a girl, how can she survive without any money? Both of you are sisters. Could you please help her for my sake?"

Irene was irritated by Steven's words, "Is Lily terminally ill? Or does she have a broken limb? Why can't she find a job on her own since she's perfectly able to do so?"

"Lily has never endured any hardships since she was a child, and she was corrupted by Deborah too. I think it will take a while for her to change," Steven explained.

Irene interrupted Steven without hesitation, "If she really wants to change, this is her chance now. I do not believe that changes take time! People change because they're forced to. If Lily really wants to change for the better, as long as she's willing to endure hardships, then she won't starve to death!"
