Even though this was my second shot at life, 1 still hadn’t developed much of a tolerance for alcohol. I could hold my own in these situations, but just barely. Halfway through, I decided to escape the next round of drinks by slipping to the restroom 1 lingered there for a few extra minutes, hoping the others would have moved on to their next round by the time I returned. 

As I left the restroom, my phone buzzed with a message. 

Liam’s situation had become more complicated. It seemed like he wasn’t going to make it, and from here on out, it was all on me to close this deal. 

As I was heading back, I noticed a tall figure approaching me from a distance. His long frame blocked the light as he stopped in front of me. 

1 frowned slightly and looked up, surprised to see Ethan standing there. His chin was shadowed with stubble, as though he hadn’t taken care of himself recently. He looked wom out, yet there was something undeniably rugged and weathered about him. 

His deep–set eyes seemed to pierce through everything as if he had witnessed the passage of time itselt. 

“How did you let yourself get this drunk?” He sounded frustrated, his brow furrowed, his gaze filled with confusion. 

1 let out a cold laugh, steadying myself despite still feeling wobbly. I straightened my back, standing tall and facing him head–on. “I didn’t think I needed to report my life to you” 

We were nothing more than strangers now, so what right did he have to stop me?
