Seizing the chance, I flung Ethan's hand away from me and darted toward the boarding gate without even sparing him a glance.

"Evelyn! Stop right there!" Ethan hollered after me. "Get lost, you filthy security guards. Let go of me!"

He yelled like crazy behind me, but I shut him out. All I wanted was to leave this place as quickly as possible and head home.

After I finally got on the plane, I plopped down and slumped in my seat. Then, I closed my eyes and tried hard to calm my breathing.

The plane took off, and my heart gradually calmed down too.

"Goodbye, Ethan." I thought to myself. "This time, I'm really letting you go."

During the several hours of flight, I slept like the dead. In my dreams, I had returned to that horrible night when Ethan took hold of me to satisfy his needs.

"Don't… Don't do this to me…" I sobbed. Tears blurred my vision, even in my dreams.

Suddenly, I was abruptly roused from my sleep as my seat jolted. My eyes snapped open, and I glanced around, still panting.

Thank goodness. I was on the plane. That horrible night was a thing of the past.

Wiping the sweat from my brow, I looked out the window. In the sea of clouds, I saw the rising sun. The plane gradually made its descent, and it occurred to me that I was finally back home.

Later, as I stepped out of the airport, I felt as though a long, long time had passed.

I felt as if I was in Lendora just a second ago, and now, I was back home. It all happened so quickly that I couldn't get used to it all.

After I took a deep breath to start this new chapter of life, I hailed a cab and gave the driver my address.

Soon, I was back in the residential area that I couldn't be more familiar with. As I pushed through the doors, a wave of happiness and peace washed over me. At that moment, all I had in mind was to have a good rest and sort out my thoughts.
