"Hi, sweetie," I said. "We finally met. Daddy and Mommy will love you with all our hearts from now on."

I caressed my son's face as I mumbled to him. At that moment, I suddenly felt as though all my past sufferings were worth it.

God might've joked with me back then, but in the end, He gave me a happy ending.

Ethan and I were finally together.

Ethan tucked a stray strand of my hair behind my ear and said, "Evelyn, when I saw our son just now, I realized that…"

He paused, his eyes watering. "Meeting you is the best thing to happen in my life.

I gripped his hand, our fingers intertwining. "Meeting you is the best thing to happen in my life too," I told him. "I wouldn't have come this far without you."

"I love you. You're the only one I love in my life," he said, gazing into my eyes.

"I love you too." Tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.

After all that had happened in my previous life, I could finally let go of all my doubts and worries. Now, I could indulge in my hard-won love and happiness.

The doctor approached us with a smile and said, "Mr. and Mrs. Grayson, I understand that you're both bursting with joy right now, but Mrs. Grayson has just given birth and needs to rest. You can continue being all lovey-dovey when you get back home."

"Ah. Sorry." Ethan smiled awkwardly as he quickly let go of my hand.

A blush crept up my cheeks. Ethan was such a jerk for saying all those sweet words in front of others. Didn't he feel embarrassed in the least?

The doctor left after telling me what I needed to take note of after labor. I looked all worn out yet content with the baby in my arms.

"Thanks, Evelyn," said Ethan, sitting down at the edge of the bed beside me. I could see the love and concern in his eyes. "Giving birth isn't easy. I will take better care of you in the future."

I had never seen Ethan's mother before this. It seemed to me that she wasn't concerned about Ethan in the least. Now that she suddenly showed up, it could only mean that she was up to no good.

"Mom, why didn't you tell me you were coming?" Ethan asked. His eyebrows were furrowed, and the displeasure was obvious in his tone.

Ethan's mother, Julia Heather, walked over to me. Her gaze landed on me before stopping at my son. She didn't even try to hide the look of indifference in her eyes.

"You're my son," she told Ethan. "And you got yourself a son. As a grandmother, it is only natural that I come here to see my grandson."

She let out a cold bark of laughter and added, "What? Am I not welcome here?"

The gloom on Ethan's face intensified. "Mom, Evelyn just gave birth. She needs rest. You're disturbing her by barging into the ward."

"Me? Disturbing her?" Julia laughed coldly.
