The two of them talked on the go and did not notice the looks they were getting behind their back.
They soon returned to their neighborhood and when the elevator opened up, a woman inside smiled at Lyla. “Ms. Lowe, shopping for groceries?”
Lyla nodded with a smile. “Yeah.”
The person then switched her attention to Mark. “Who is this handsome lad supposed to be?”
‘Uhh…’
Lyla knew she was talking about Mark. Just when she was about to explain, Mark smiled and said, “Hi, I’m Hansel and Gretel’s daddy!”
“Oh, you're Ms. Lowe’s husband?” The woman said in surprise.
Husband? The term made Mark happy. He smiled even wider and brighter.
Lyla heard the conversation going on, she wanted to explain the situation but the more she explained, the messier the situation would be. Moreover, he was indeed Hansel and Gretel’s daddy, so Lyla decided to keep quiet.
“Did we meet somewhere before?” The woman asked. Mark looked familiar but she could not recall where she saw him before.
It was then the elevator dinged. Lyla walked out of it and said, “This is where we will be getting off. See you.”
“O-Okay!” The woman nodded and saw Lyla and Mark off.
Lyla turned around for a quick glance and saw the woman in deep thought, she must be trying to recall why Mark looked so familiar.
Lyla was certain that the woman must have seen Mark on some magazines or television show.
With the thought aside, the elevator door closed and the two of them walked away.
Lyla did not mention anything about the little situation in the elevator, they went into the house without saying a word.
A while later, Hansel and Gretel came back as well. When the twins saw Mark, their eyes glistened in surprise. “Daddy, why are you here?”
Mark smiled at them. “I’m homeless now, so I’m taking shelter here!”
Homeless? Impossible!
“My dear, if your daddy has no money, no car, no house, will you still call me daddy?” asked Mark as he looked deep into Hansel and Gretel’s eyes.
“Uhmmm…”
“I…”
An amusing scene happened, both Hansel and Gretel hesitated and looked at each other with a troubled look.
Mark frowned at their hesitation.
Lyla saw the scene from a side and could not hold back her laughter.
Two twins were indeed her own blood based on their reaction, she was extremely delighted by it.
“Hey, what’s with that look on your face? I’m hurt!” Mark furrowed his brows and grumbled.
In the end, Gretel said, “Daddy, it’s just a joke. I don’t care whether you are rich or not, you are still my daddy, I love you!”
She then jumped into Mark’s arms.
Mark happily hugged her. “For real?”
Gretel nodded.
“Why?” Mark asked. He expected her to say because he was her daddy and she would love her no matter what.
To his surprise, the little girl said, “Because you are handsome, I’ll follow you forever. Even if you are poor, you will look good when I bring you out!”
Mark was rendered speechless.
He then looked at Hansel. “What about you?”
“Of course you are still my daddy!”
“Why is that?”
“If I disown you when you are poor and broke, others will call me an unfilial son!” said Hansel nonchalantly.
Mark was again rendered speechless. The twins in his house were not cute at all!
They were ridiculously realistic, similar to Lyla.
With that in mind, Mark turned to Lyla and glared at her.
Lyla showed an innocent look because she did not teach them to say anything like that.
She had to admit that she was moved for a moment there.
This was the life she wanted, little squabbles adding spice in a normal life, not a grand and epic adventure.
The thought in her mind made her stare at Mark for a little longer.
…
On the other side, after Mark left the company, M.K. Corporation got a lot merrier.
Many documents needed to be signed and since Mark was in charge of most of the projects, the documents must have his signature on them.
Logan got nervous. He stopped all the documents and declared that he was in charge of the company, he could sign the documents that did not require Mark’s signature.
He started off seriously but the more documents he read, the dizzier he got. He got even more nervous. Since all the documents were just layer after layer of selections, there should not be any problem, so he assumed a little signature on it would be enough.
Signing the documents was quicker than reading them. A while later, Logan signed his signature on all the documents. He got ahead of himself and thought if Mark could do it, so could he.
In the upcoming days, he became a CEO who only knew how to sign his names on documents.
He even modified the office into his little game space and stayed in there all day. Logan feigned working when someone came in and when he was alone, he spent all his time playing games.
He really brought out the spirit and lived the life of a useless but wealthy second generation.
The company was talking and criticizing his actions but no one dared to voice it out loud. Everyone decided to keep quiet and let him have his way because he was the CEO.
Many of the employees called Mark but Mark turned off his phone and went missing. Everyone in the company was anxious.
After Lyla recovered from her injuries, she returned to the company.
Despite saying so, Lily was truly happy for Lyla because she found the couple extremely matching. They were made for each other!
“Don’t get this wrong. He said that he was homeless and asked my babies to take him in, I have nothing to do with this!” said Lyla as she tried to clear her name.
However, no matter how much Lyla explained, Lily strongly believed there was something between them. The two talked on the go and soon made their way to the meeting room.
After the two of them sat down, Logan came in.
It was the first meeting between Lyla and Logan, the rumored useless CEO of the company.
She had to admit that everyone from the Pattison family was naturally tall and handsome. Even though Logan looked nothing like Mark, he still looked noble and the suit looked extremely handsome on him.
However, when Mark was in a suit, he looked matured and smart; when Logan was in a suit, he looked like a fresh grad on his first day of work.
Logan walked to the center, sat down, and looked at everyone grumpily. He slammed a document file on the table. “Tell me, what is this.”
No one dared to speak a word.
“Do you know how many complaints we received from other companies?” Logan stated.
No one made a sound.
“Who is the creative director?” he asked.
“Ms. Turner, but she hasn’t come in for a long time.”
“Ms. Turner? THAT Ms. Turner?” asked Logan.
“Yes, Ms. Kathleen Turner,” one of the employees replied.
Logan then frowned. He knew a thing or two about Kathleen.
Since the name Kathleen was mentioned, Logan had to think about what to say next.
Some thought later, he said, “Which means we don’t have a director in the design department now?”
Everyone continued to keep quiet.
Lyla was thinking that Logan was not as useless as everyone said, at least he had his own dignity and strictness!
The employee who mentioned Kathleen earlier nodded.
A moment later, Logan said, “Fine then. We will elect a new creative director now.”
Logan then looked at everyone, “I am a fair man, I’ll leave the decision up to you guys.”
The truth was, Logan knew nothing about the design department, hence shifting the responsibility to the department itself.
One had to give it to him for his quick wit.
After that, everyone exchanged a quick look. Lyla sat there quietly without expressing her thoughts.
“How is it? Is there a candidate in mind? If there is, just tell me who it is,” said Logan.
Everyone then pointed at Lyla.
