Lyla had no idea why everyone was looking at her.

What happened?

Even Logan was looking at her and he furrowed his brows. Lyla reminded him of someone but he could not recall where he saw her before.

“Mr. Pattison, we would like to suggest Ms. Lowe,” one of the employees said.

“Ms. Lowe?” Logan muttered Lyla’s name softly.

Lyla joined the company a while ago but had been through the toughest time under Kathleen’s supervision. However, she was able to solve even the toughest case and sealed the deal, therefore the entire department acknowledged her skills.

It was unprecedented within the company.

Lyla could not put her feelings into words. She was still considered a new employee of the company yet everyone suggested her and trusted her to the position. It was a huge acknowledgment for her.

“What’s your name?” Logan looked at her and asked.

“Mr. Pattison, I’m Lyla, Lyla Lowe.”

“Lyla Lowe?”

The name rang a bell in him but he could not remember where he heard it before.

He frowned for a moment as he tried to search his memories. It was then the realization hit, “You are the woman who got into a scandal with Mark?!”

Lyla was left speechless.

The way Logan called her ‘woman’ was unsettling and she did not like it.

Logan did not take his tone seriously. He remembered back at home, Eileen once sent someone to run a background check on Lyla and now it seemed like this woman was more than it meets the eye.

Otherwise, Eileen would not have spent so much effort investigating her.

Logan grinned coldly at Lyla.

“Mr. Pattison, like you said, it’s just a rumor,” Lyla tried to explain.

“But I also know there must be a reason for something to happen!” His words were obviously targeting Lyla.

Everyone thought they were promoting Lyla to the department director but it seemed like they pushed her into the lion’s mouth. Logan’s words obviously disapproved of her.

Lyla smiled. “Then I wonder what you mean, Mr. Pattison.”

What could he possibly do to Mark’s woman?

Since Mark has left the company, why would he leave his woman behind?

He smiled. “Nothing. If you can send Kathleen packing, it means you have something up your sleeves. I have to admit that you are capable.”

Lyla was speechless. She was already considering whether to throw the document in his face or not.

A man like Logon who mixed up personal matters into an office meeting was not bright at all.

She finally understood why Mark was so confident. Sooner or later, the company would be doomed in Logan’s hand.

While Lyla was drifting away with her thoughts, Logan said, “Since everyone suggested you to be the new director, then you will be the new director of the department. Ms. Lowe, I hope you can live up to the expectation and don’t let the company down.”

Lyla was scolded at her first promotion but she was helpless against it.

However, she sensed the difference between Mark and Logan, she could not pinpoint what she disliked about Logan but the loathing feeling was strong.

Since Logan was still the CEO of the company, Lyla had to be respectful, she nodded and said, “I will do my best.”

“Well then. Ms. Lowe, would you mind telling me what is going on with the design department?” Logan cut to the chase.

Lyla was speechless once again.

Everyone else exchanged a nervous gaze because they knew Lyla had just come back to the office. What should she answer?

Someone said, “Mr. Pattison, Ms. Lowe just came back from her leave today, she might need some time to catch up…”

“I am not asking you, shut up.”

The person was stunned by those words. She sat down there like a statue, staring blankly in the air.

Lyla frowned and said, “It’s fine, I can handle this.”

“Then tell me.” Logan looked at Lyla. It was obvious that he wanted her to feel the difficulty.

Kathleen just left the company yet someone like Logan replaced her role, it seemed like Lyla’s bad luck continued.

Lyla looked at him. “Mr. Pattison, the collaboration that we had before were all supervised by Mark, so we need his signature to continue the project. The clients said they will only deal with Mark and now since he isn’t the CEO anymore, the clients don’t want to continue. On top of that, you halted all the projects, that’s why we can’t continue our work. That is why we have been receiving complaints lately.”

Lyla spoke the truth loudly.

She originally wanted to be more subtle but Logan’s arrogance would never understand her fully, therefore she decided to be straightforward.

To her surprise, everyone gasped in shock after what she said.

Deep in the people’s heart, they praised Lyla for her bold spirit and the strong will to face certain death.

Lyla stood at her place, looking fearless and bold.

The moment her words subsided, Logan reacted sourly. “You are saying it’s my fault now?”

“I did not say it is your fault but there are many project documents in your hands and we cannot continue without permission!” Lyla replied.

Everyone else kept quiet. Even though it was the truth, no one dared to speak up.

Logan stared at her fiercely. He slammed the table and bellowed, “I’m telling you people, from today onwards, M.K. has only one CEO and that is ME, Logan Pattison! As for Mark, he will never be back! If the clients aren’t happy with the terms and collaboration, just call the deal off! We are not afraid of losing them!”

Lyla wanted to ask when it happened but Mark looked at her deeply. “Don’t worry. He might have scolded you today but I will make sure he will pay for it in the future, it will cost him a hundred times more.”

Lyla was stunned.

Logan did not really scold her, he was just ridiculing her but when Mark talked about it, it shook her heart for a moment.

Logan was Mark’s brother yet Mark wanted to teach him a lesson because of her, how could she not be shocked?

“I’m fine. Jack must have missed out the details. Tell me the truth, are you planning something?” Lyla repeated.

Mark raised his brows and grunted.

Lyla knew, it must be.

“If you have something in mind, you better be quick about it. Otherwise, M.K. will be doomed in Logan’s hand,” Lyla said.

Mark looked at her with his handsome but strict face, he then smiled. “What’s wrong? Starting to feel bad for my company now?”

The strict look on him turned into a naughty look in just a moment.

Lyla rolled her eyes white at him. “I’m just trying to protect everyone’s job, a lot of people will lose their jobs if you don’t do anything.”

Whether she was speaking the truth or not, Mark did not care. He slightly furrowed his brows. “Don’t you think I’m being dirty if I really do it?”

He looked serious when he asked the question.

Lyla thought about it carefully and shook her head. “The capable deserve to be there. Moreover, your father started M.K. from the ground and you are the one who brought it to new heights. You are the leader of the company, everyone admires you. Logan taking the position will only ruin the company from within, you are just trying to save everyone, it’s not dirty in my opinion.”

Mark felt a lot better after hearing those words, it cleared up the worries that he had in mind.

The reason he kept it a secret from Lyla because he did not want her to look at him like an evil person but after she assured him that it was fine, happiness overflowed from his heart.

He looked at Lyla. “I was right about you.”

“About what?”

Mark smiled and pulled Lyla into his arms, “Nothing.”

Lyla wanted to break free but Mark said, “Don’t move, let me hug you for a while.”

Strangely, Lyla did as told, she did not move a muscle when Mark told her to, she allowed him to hug her as much as he wished.

An indescribable feeling filled the air.

Mark might be wild and unbridled but he was a man with a conscience, Lyla could feel that. He feigned nonchalance but deep down, he cared a lot.

Only someone like Mark really cared about others, unlike the heartless Logan, who cared for nothing but himself.

With that in mind, Lyla felt bad for Mark.
