It was eating Arden up inside at the thought that the kids were hers and Mark’s.

“Lyla, are the two children Mark’s?” Arden stared at her and asked, completely heartbroken.

Having made preparations for the question to be asked, Lyla nodded. “Yes!”

“How did it come to this? Judging by their age, they’re pretty grown up. Did you know Mark during that time already?” Arden enquired.

He would have known if they knew each other.

Only God knew how close of attention he paid to her so much so he would find out should there be any slight rustling from her end.

Arden had no knowledge that she knew Mark.

With that in mind, he felt that this was impossible.

Speaking of this, Lyla lowered her gaze and slowly spoke, “It was an accident. It was only recently that I found out that Mark was my children’s father.”

Arden frowned. Obviously, he was curious about what had happened then.

“What’s going on?” Arden posed a question. “Weren’t you with Samael then?”

Lyla bitterly smiled at the mention of Samael. “It was because of him that I ended up this way!”

Without going into details, Arden seemed to have an idea of what was going on. He pulled a long face that spoke of indescribable sourness.

Gazing at him, Lyla smiled. “It’s all in the past. What’s most important is that I’m doing good now and with no regrets!”

No regrets!

These words cut Arden like a knife.

Was she saying that she had no regrets about what had happened between her and Mark?

Pursing his lips, Arden was at a loss for words.

Faced with his silence, Lyla met his eyes. “Senior, what’s wrong?”

Snapping out of it, Arden forced a grin. “I’m okay!”

As the waiter served the dishes, Arden tried to pull himself out of the pool of discomfort and gazed at her. “Alright now, enough of that. Oh, right, I saw the news about M.K. Corporation landing in hot water. It seems pretty serious!”

“Yes.” Lyla bobbed her head.

“How about it? Why don’t you come work with me? The benefits are definitely better than M.K.!” Arden happily brought up with the intention of Lyla to come and join him.

He was unable to convince himself but could gradually come to accept as long as Lyla was with him.

Lyla gave it a thought. “It’s okay, I’m happy where I am!”

“But M.K. will fall into bankruptcy sooner or later by the way things are going!” Arden replied.

“I’ll think about it when the company goes out of business. People will talk if I leave before it happens!”

“There are a lot of M.K. employees that have reached out to other companies. No one will talk bad about you!” Arden commented.

She caught wind of the situation but it really got her thinking after hearing it out of Arden’s mouth.

It seemed he followed M.K. closely to even have information about this inside news.

Unaware of the change in Lyla, Arden said, “Lyla, I won’t have you working so hard if you come join my organization!”

“It’s fine!” Lyla resolutely refused. “Senior, I understand that you’re worried about me. I will seek help from you if M.K. really closes down, but I don’t have such plans as of now!” Lyla answered.

There was nothing more that could be said at this point as further comments would put them both in an awkward situation.

In the end, he gave a nod. “Okay, Lyla, please remember that you must look for me no matter the circumstances. I will help you!”

Lyla flashed a smile at him. “Don’t worry, Senior. I won’t hesitate!”

With that grin within his vision, Arden had a deja vu moment.

It was once because of such a smile that he held on for eight years.

Now she belonged to someone else!

No!

She was still Lyla!

Although she had two children, she said it herself that it was an accident. She was not together with Mark!

Arden had waited for eight years and was not going to be so stupid to stand by any longer. He must have Lyla!

……

Just as they were dining, Lyla’s phone rang.

Recalling that she had forgotten to give Hansel a call, she immediately picked up the call.

“Hello, Hansel...”

“Mommy, it’s getting late. Why aren’t you home yet? It’s almost time to eat!” Hansel replied.

“I’m sorry, Mommy is having a meal outside. I forgot to call you. I’m really sorry!” Lyla’s voice was filled with love.

Watching at the other end of the table, the sight did not sit well with Arden.

If only...

They were their kids instead!

He would feel a little better if it was anyone other than Mark. Why did it have to be Mark?!

Without realizing it, his grip on the cutleries tightened!

“With Daddy?” Hansel asked.

“No!”

“Oh, okay. Got it. Don’t stay out too late!”

“Sure, I know!”

After hanging up, Lyla let out a smile at Arden.

“Was it your son?”

“Yes.” Lyla nodded.

“He really cares for you!”

“Yes.”

Arden’s lips perked into a bitter smile.

“Why?”

“No reason. You just need to follow my instructions!”

Lyla scoffed. “Mr. Pattinson, I have a right to my freedom in life. Why should I listen to you?”

Following a screech, the car was stopped.

Mark turned over to gaze at her viciously. “What did you say?”

Lyla was a little intimidated by the sudden look on his face but subconsciously, she knew that Mark would not do anything to her.

“What-what are you doing?” Lyla stared at him with wary eyes. Having been taken advantage of one too many times, her reaction came naturally.

Lyla did feel fear as he inched closer. Putting her arms against his chest in a bid to push him away, she persuaded him. “Mark Pattinson, please be reasonable. We’re in the middle of the road and there are many cars coming and going...”

“What? You’re scared?” He retorted, raising a brow.

Lyla. “...”

Who would not be afraid when he meant business in terms of carrying out shameless deeds?

“Lyla Lowe, I’m telling you to keep your distance from Arden Pattinson. He’s not as innocent as you think. You’ll regret the day he eats you up alive!” Mark issued a warning.

Lyla had no idea why Mark would say such a thing. She would have given him a piece of her mind prior to today but after having dinner with Arden tonight, she had the feeling that Arden was somehow different...

While she was reflecting on this, Mark darted her a vicious glare before positioning himself back on the seat and driving off.

The pair did not have another exchange throughout the journey.

The car cruised all the way to the house.

Still not in bed, Hansel and Gretel were waiting for them.

Hansel immediately grinned at the sight of them entering through the door. “Daddy, Mommy, you’re back. Are you hungry? Let me make you supper!”

Walking in the front, Lyla seized the opportunity to give him a dirty look.

It must be Hansel who tipped Mark off.

However, what was wrong with having dinner with someone else in the first place?

It was not as though Mark was her somebody.

“I’m not having supper. I’m going back to my room for a rest!” Lyla quickly walked away.

Mark headed to the sofa in the living room instead. “I’ll have it!”

“Oh...” Judging by the look of things, Hansel knew something must have happened. “I’ll go make some!”

With Lyla retreating to her room, Hansel drew close. “Daddy, did you have a fight with Mommy?”

Speaking of this, Mark swept a glance at her bedroom door. “No.” He coldly blurted.

Hansel. “...”

Mark may say otherwise but the tension in the room was clear cut.

Gazing at Mark, Hansel fell into thought. “Daddy, I have something I want to tell you!”

“What?”
