Everyone thought Kathleen did it on purpose but on the second day after she was arrested, she confessed everything, including the incident with the M.K. jewelry, she claimed that she did it herself.

Right after the confession, M.K. regained its reputation, it returned to being a popular company and it felt like it was even more popular than before.

The incident was like free promotion for M.K., which boosted the company to new heights.

It was human nature to take pleasure in misfortune and flatter when there was benefit to be acquired. It was the reason why the commercial world was so harsh nowadays and it seemed like the public consumers were also the same.

Ever since Gretel went missing, Mark lost the mood to take care of the company, so he passed all the work to the manager for the time being.

Right after Kathleen confessed, it removed Mark and Lyla’s suspicions of her.

If she had the heart to confess her crimes, she would not be cruel enough to keep Gretel away.

Gretel could not be found anywhere, as if she had disappeared into thin air.

Hansel and Mark used almost all manpower and connections they had to search for her but still nothing.

Mark frowned. Since the search had been going on for quite some time, he could not exclude the possibility anymore.

Now, he felt conflicted to get whatever news about Gretel. As long as they did not have any news about Gretel, it meant that she was still safe and sound somewhere. He was afraid that Gretel might end up dead and he would not know what to do then.

“It’s possible. Since we can’t find her in Alpine, we should expand our search.”

“The world is so big, where should we go?” Lingo asked.

“No matter where or how long it takes, I’ll find her!” Mark said.

Hansel nodded. “Gretel being missing will also impact Hell’s Angel, they’ve already sent out their intelligence team to search for her.”

“I’ll mobilize my men from Ghost Gate to find her as well.”

“If Hell’s Angel and Ghost Gate couldn’t locate her, then what should we do?” Piers asked.

Lingo glanced and Piers and Piers said, “Okay then, we will be going.”

“I’m coming as well, I want first-hand updates on my sister,” Hansel said.

They nodded and then left together, leaving Mark and Lyla in the living room.

Mark tightened his lips at Lyla’s thinning body. He sat down beside her and hugged her from behind.

“Believe me, I’ll get Gretel back.”

Lyla did not say anything. Mark then said, “Be strong, Gretel and I wouldn’t want you to be like this.”

His words somehow attracted Lyla and he reacted with a nod. “I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine until we find Gretel.”

Mark kept quiet and hugged her tighter.

Arden finally got the news about Kathleen, including her arrest and pregnancy. It shocked him.

“Kathleen is pregnant? She’s pregnant?”

Be it the timing or other particulars, he did not suspect that child in her stomach at all because he knew it better than anyone.

After he got the news, Mark arrived at his door.

The two men sat opposite each other. As rivals in the business world, the two of them did not feel tense or pressure when they looked at each other, the atmosphere was somehow strange and could not be put into words.

“What do I owe for the visit?” Arden asked.

“I suppose you’ve heard about Kathleen.”

“So what?”

Mark stood up but before he left, he added, “I don’t mean anything else, I’m just here to remind you.”

Mark wanted to leave for good.

“Hold on.”

Mark stopped.

“How is she now?”

Mark’s handsome face looked a little shaken. He said, “She’s not someone you should care about anymore.”

Mark then left without giving Arden the chance to talk.

Kathleen stood there, watching as Arden walked away. Tears rolled down her cheeks, she suddenly regretted everything that she did. If she had not done it, things would not have ended this way.

Regardless, regret was useless as the dust settled, they could not reverse what happened anymore.

Kathleen wanted to make up for her mistakes after she was released, so she too joined the party in searching for Gretel.

Even though she did not really hide Gretel away, she was the one who had first kidnapped the girl, and the girl was missing because of her.

She had the responsibility and the duty to make things right.

She returned to the parking lot but all signs were long gone. She even asked the security for the surveillance tape but coincidentally, the tapes for that particular day were ruined. There was nothing left, even the footage of her arriving and leaving the car there was gone.

It had been a few days and there was still nothing.

Gretel really had disappeared into thin air. Kathleen started to feel scared.

She thought of going to Mark and Lyla but she knew that her appearance was a stimulant to their already volatile life. After a lot of hesitation, she decided to not show up.

She waited in the parking lot, waiting for someone who might have seen Gretel.

Finally one day, she got something and rushed to Mark’s place right away.

Mark and Lyla were a lot thinner ever since Gretel went missing. They did not want to see Kathleen but when they heard she had news, it surprised the couple.

“What news?”

“That day, though I did keep her in the trunk of the car, she was smart enough to get out. However, she was taken away by two men.”

“Men? What men?”

“I don’t know but I heard they went to the port. I went there to ask around but I got nothing. So I was thinking maybe you guys can get something useful.”

Gretel was kidnapped by human traffickers?

Mark frowned. Regardless of how it would turn out, Kathleen’s news was the silver lining to them.

Mark immediately informed Hansel to meet him at the port after he got the news.

Lyla got up and followed Mark but before she walked out of the door, she paused and looked at Kathleen.

“No matter what, thank you for the update.”

“She’s missing because of me, this is the least I can do,” Kathleen said.

She was doing this to atone for her sins and for the sake of the child in her.

Without further ado, Lyla left with Mark.

It was the only news that they had received in the past 2 weeks, it was safe to say that the news was a floating log that had saved them from drowning in despair.
