“I’m sorry, I didn’t know…” Lyla said as she looked at Felix.

Felix looked a little pale but when she saw Lyla’s teary eyes, he reached out to her. “Silly, you have nothing to do with this and you are not someone who would cry this easily.”

The tears in her eyes were crystal clear. She tried to hold them back but failed, and the tears rolled down her cheeks.

Shadow was worried. “Boss, it’s better to call the doctor over.”

“I’m fine.”

“But…” Shadow wanted to persuade his boss but it was then that he noticed his boss’ arm was bleeding.

“Boss, you are bleeding again!”

Hansel and Lyla went over when they heard Felix was bleeding but Felix looked at his wound nonchalantly. “It’s nothing, don’t make a fuss.”

“Shadow, has he always been like this?” asked Hansel.

Shadow nodded. “Yeah, he’s been in a coma for half a month and finally got better but…”

“That’s enough!” Felix bellowed to stop him.

Shadow stopped talking but he looked concerned.

“Stop talking, let’s get you checked.”

“I’m really fine, it’s not easy for us to get together…”

“Do you want to listen to me and go get checked or do you want me to call the doctor over?”

“Lyla…”

“Right now!”

Felix was helpless against Lyla. He ultimately nodded. “Okay.”

“I’ll go with you.”

Felix was surprised before he said, “Just wait for me here. Have dinner. I’ll be back faster if time for you passes a little faster.”

In the past, whenever Felix was hurt, he would beg and cry for Lyla’s care but now it was different.

The more he tried to act tough, the more worried Lyla was.

“I’ll go with you!” Lyla said.

Felix looked at her deeply, his eyes were glimmering.

Before he could say anything else, Lyla said, “Let’s go.”

Felix was speechless and he was forced to leave with Lyla.

When Felix removed his shirt and showed his wound, Lyla did not know how to describe what she saw.

The bandage was dyed red and the wound on his body was as gory as it could get.

The wound was so big that it was unbearable for Lyla.

Tears fell down her cheeks.

Felix sat on the chair and smiled at her. “Silly, why are you crying? It doesn’t hurt at… Ugh!”

He frowned before he could finish and he chuckled awkwardly. “Maybe a little.”

Lyla knew Felix’s personality better than anyone, he would emphasize the smallest things but could simply brush off the most important ones.

She did not know how to console him, her heart sank deeper by the second.

Hansel also frowned as he watched from the side. He knew Felix was hurt but he did not expect the injuries to be this severe.

The doctor put a new layer of bandages on Felix but he was still as pale as paper.

The doctor then told Felix to stay put and get some rest.

Felix simply said he understood but Lyla knew he would never follow the doctor’s order.

After he got up, Felix looked at Lyla, “Come on, it’s time for dinner.”

“Dinner? Didn’t you hear what the doctor said?”

“Oh right… I forgot you know a little Italian.” Felix was caught off guard.

“Felix! Can you take care of yourself?!” Lyla felt helpless and painful when she saw him in his condition.

“What’s wrong?”

Lyla took a deep breath and looked at him. “I really hope you can take care of yourself.”

Felix smiled affectionately at her. “Of course I’ll take care of myself, I still have to protect you, right?”

The more frivolous he was, the sadder Lyla was. “Listen to me, get some rest, lie down.”

“But…”

“Felix!”

“Okay okay okay! I’ll go lie down, don’t get angry.” Felix quickly complied before Lyla could get angry.

Lyla really had no words for her feelings. Bad things happened one after another, she did not know how much more she could handle. She wished that everyone around her could be well and healthy, yet it seemed like she was asking for too much.

Felix returned to bed and Lyla and Hansel stood by him.

The servants then brought the meal to the room inside. The meal was a feast, a lot of the dishes were Lyla and Hansel’s favourite.

However, Felix was served only a bowl.

He helplessly asked the servant in Italian, “Can I not eat this?”

“You can’t.”

Felix held the bowl with a sulking face.

He looked at Lyla and chuckled. “It seems like I’m out of luck. All I can do is watch you feast while I have to eat something like this.”

Hansel translated the conversation to Lyla and Lyla looked at Felix. “It’s important for your body.”

She was moved when Felix told the kitchen to prepare her favourite foods but she did not have the appetite at all.

Fortunately, she ate some with Felix urging her. They stayed until late night before they left.

“Don’t worry, I’ll contact you right away when I find anything,” Felix said.

Lyla was worried about Gretel but Felix was not in a good shape himself.

“I wish you a speedy recovery.”

Mark curled his lips into a grin. “If you said so, what else can I say?”

“I just want you to know that Felix exists. I never wanted to hide it from you, I just don’t know how to break it to you.”

“I understand.”

“You are not mad?”

“Mad? Should I be mad that you are close with him? I believe if you have feelings for him, you wouldn’t be beside me now.”

There were times where Mark’s understanding trumped everyone else.

“Besides, he gave you support and helped you during your desperate times. He even helped Hansel and Gretel, I should be thanking him, not be mad at him. I am mad at myself for not knowing you earlier.”

Lyla felt a lot better with Mark’s assurance.

Mark was not a generous man in terms of relationships. Lyla expected Mark to be mad after the revelation but fortunately, he did not.

She was grateful for his understanding.

Lyla looked into his eyes, she did not have words to express herself but she believed Mark knew her well enough.

She reached out and curled her hands around Mark’s waist before she leaned on his chest.

Her worrying heart finally got some time to rest.

With Mark around, she could feel safe.

“Mark.”

“Hmm?”

“Thank you.”

Mark flinched. “I should be the one to say that.”

“What are you thanking me for?”

“Thank you for loving me and staying by my side.”

Lyla’s body shook for a moment. The always confident Mark also had moments where he felt weak, he might look fine but he must be worried and scared deep down.

Lyla did not know what to say, all she could do was hug him tightly and convey her thoughts.

……

Mark knew Lyla’s heart but not Felix’s thoughts.

His instinct told him that Felix did not simply treat Lyla as a friend.

However, as long as Felix did not hurt Lyla and never put her in a difficult situation, Mark could ignore it.

Even though he was jealous, jealous that she knew a man longer than him and was that close, he believed Lyla because she said Felix was like family.

If he wanted Lyla to stop seeing Felix, it would affect his relationship with Lyla and it might be impossible.

Therefore, Mark chose to accept, not Felix’s feelings for Lyla, but Felix’s existence as something that he could not erase.

He had other things to take care of now and the situation remained tense, he did not have the attention and time to be jealous. His priority was locating Gretel and Felix was influential in Rome.

At the thought of it, Mark squinted his eyes and came up with a plan.
