In the airplane.

Lyla was not feeling as down as before and appeared to be in a better place.

Felix sat on one end. Even amid silence, he could sense the change in her mood.

Could it be that only Mark was capable of stirring her feelings that way?

Pursing his lips, Felix was unable to reconcile with that fact.

They were so happy prior to the encounter with Mark... Hence, he believed that they would return to their former lives as long as they left together.

The so-called affections were merely nurtured through time. He firmly believed that he could sweep her off her feet.

Looking at her, his eyes spoke of profundity.

Just then, he suddenly frowned.

Sensing eyes on her, Lyla turned over and glanced at him. “How are you doing?”

Felix’s hand bore down his temple as he endured immense pain.

Lyla pressed a button for service. It did not take long before the air stewardess came over and gazed at them. “Is there anything I can do for you?”

“Do you have water? Can you give me a glass of water for him to take his medicine?” Lyla asked.

Observing that there was something wrong with Felix, the air stewardess nodded. “Yes, we do. Please wait. I will pour you a glass right away.” With that, she turned over and made haste.

Lyla quickly dug out some pills and turned to him. “Bear with it. The water is coming.”

Soon, the air stewardess returned with a glass of water.

After taking the glass, Lyla put the medicine into his mouth and gave him the water. Felix immediately downed the drink...

“How are you feeling?” Lyla studied his face.

With his eyes closed, Felix sloped against his seat. Although he was still in pain, it was well within his tolerance level. He felt much better after swallowing the pill.

“Do you need first aid?” The air stewardess enquired with worry.

“It’s okay, we have a personal doctor,” Lyla answered. Doctors proved not much of a help in such an occurrence. Taking medicine to ease the pain was the best course of action in this instance.

They continued to observe Felix and after a while, the latter gradually opened his eyes.

“I’m fine,” He retorted.

Letting out a sigh of relief, Lyla handed the glass back to the air stewardess. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome. This is our responsibility.” The air stewardess then gracefully left.

Lyla looked towards Felix. “Why do I have the feeling that the frequency of your headaches is increasing?”

Felix gave her a smile. “It’s fine, don’t be too worried.”

What more could Lyla say? She fixated on him. “Get some rest. It’s still a long way to landing.”

“Okay.”

As Felix nodded, Lyla pulled a blanket over him.

Felix opened his eyes to meet hers. “Lyla.”

“Yes?”

“Would you blame me?” He asked.

“Blame you for what?”

“Blame me for dragging you into this. Blame me for taking you away.”

Dumbstruck at the reply at first, she then flashed a grin at him. “I wouldn’t have followed you if I blamed you.”

“Aren’t you afraid that his heart would no longer be yours by the time you return?” Felix probed.

Not at all worried, Lyla merely smiled. “I’m not.”

“Why?”

“Because I trust him,” Lyla replied. Her eyes were resolute like never before.

Felix stared at her. Her tone and determination were what Felix longed for.

“But you... you should know how he was before. Do you really believe that he has turned over a new leaf?” Felix asked, “I even read about his sex scandal with another woman during our journey here.”

“You said it yourself, it's only a scandal.” Lyla was unfazed.

“Do you really not care?”

“It’s not that I don’t care, but I trust him.” Lyla curled her lips into a smile. “You’re right. It’s hard to feel at ease because of his past. However, I don’t know why but I believe in him.”

“What would you do if he has a change of heart?”

“I’ll open a bottle of champagne and celebrate.”

“Huh?”

“Isn’t it worth a celebration if I saw his true colors early on because of him cheating on me during a temporary separation?” Lyla replied with a question.

Her ideals often went against his, or perhaps she was just dealing with him using a light-hearted tone.

Felix stopped the questioning as there was no point in probing further.

He closed his eyes and took it easy.

Faced with his silence, Lyla adjusted herself in the seat and closed her eyes to rest. Even though she was settling back, her hand brushed against the ring on her finger...

She believed.

The answer would be beyond all doubt.

Fortunately, there was not another recurrence while on the way. They finally made it to America after over a dozen hours. There was a car waiting at the VIP exit in the airport once they got off the plane. Felix was sent straight to the hospital upon landing.

Lyla was with him the whole time.

Felix was immediately pushed in after reaching the hospital, and asked to take a rest before the examination.

Shadow, on the other hand, went to take care of the paperwork.

Lyla stared at him. “Judging by the doctor’s tone, the success rate of the operation seemed high. Don’t think too much into it.”

Felix fixated his focus on her. “I’m not overthinking it, I’m worried about you instead.”

“Uh?”

“You haven’t had much of a rest for over ten hours. It’s getting late. Let Shadow escort you home for a rest,” Felix uttered.

Speaking of this, Lyla turned her line of vision to outside the window, noting that it was dark outside. She wondered what kept her going that she was not the least bit tired or sleepy.

“I’m fine.”

“Who is going to come look after me if you’re not doing fine?” Felix retorted with a question.

Before she could reply, Felix turned his attention to Shadow. “Take Lyla back for some rest.”

Shadow nodded his head. “Yes.”

“But what about you? Who is going to care for you?” Lyla enquired.

“All examinations have been carried out. There’s nothing more to be done here. Moreover, Shadow will be here if there’s anything.” Felix stared at her.

“But...”

“No more buts. Be good and head back for some sleep,” Felix said.

What more could be said? Lyla gave a nod in response. “Okay, I’ll come over first thing in the morning.”

“Sure.” Felix bobbed her head.

Getting up, Lyla followed Shadow out.

He saw her off. The smile on Felix’s face slowly disappeared once she was out the door. He turned his eyes outside the window. Amid the dark of the night, it was hard to read into the depth of his eyes.

…...

Back at the hotel, Shadow glanced at Lyla. “Ms. Lowe, get some rest. You can let the hotel personnel know if you need anything. Also, there are people assigned at the door to protect you. Just call out to them for anything at all.”

“There’s really no need to...” Lyla was not used to people keeping watch over her outside while she snoozed inside. It made her ill at ease.

“I get where you’re going but your safety is priority. I hope you can understand,” Shadow uttered.

With nothing more to be said, Lyla nodded.

“Ms. Lowe, I should get going.”

“Okay.”

Lyla let out a sigh following Shadow’s departure. Turning around to take a glance of the huge hotel, Lyla was unable to discern her feelings at the moment.

Regardless whether it was Felix or Mark, they lived life on the edge. Such a life may seem glamorous but they were helplessly caught in between.

Hansel and Gretel suddenly came into mind. They would probably go along the same path.

Although she did not wish that for them, she could not stop the children from moving forward. Since they were capable of thinking for themselves, Lyla decided to respect their wishes no matter the consequences.

With that in mind, she pulled out her phone to give Mark a call.
