She had just taken out her phone when it rang.
Observing the incoming contact number, Lyla’s lips curled into a smile. It never occurred to her that they were of the same mind. She happily pressed to accept the call. “Hello...”
“You must be there now, right?”
“Yes, I was just about to give you a call.” The sound of Mark’s voice put her in a great mood.
“How was it? Are you tired?”
“I’m good.”
The couple remained silent for a minute.
“I miss you,” He said. “What should I do? I miss you so much even though it has only been a day.” His voice was hoarse.
Lyla lowered her gaze and replied, “Me too.”
“I really want to go to where you are.”
Lyla shook at the response, prompting her to utter. “Quit fooling around. I’ll be back sooner than you know it.”
“Now I understand the feeling of eternity after not seeing you for a day.”
“Since when do you pay excessive attention to wording?”
“Well, it has to be close to my heart.”
“Mark.”
“Yes?”
“I love you.”
Taken aback, Mark muttered, “Me too.”
Lyla chuckled. “I have waited for you for a long time. Now it’s your turn.”
“I will.”
She wanted to add more but Mark ensued with another remark. “I will be a good boy and wait for your return in bed.”
Lyla. “...”
Mark revealed his true colors in less than three sentences.
“Take good care of Gretel and Darling,” Lyla urged.
“I will,” Mark retorted. “You’ve been up and about for a day. You should get some rest.”
“Okay.”
The duo chatted for a while before reluctantly hanging up.
She was indeed exhausted after keeping at it for a full day and night. Lyla took a shower and went to bed.
Lyla slept through the night to the next day.
It was nine o’clock in the morning by the time she came to. With Felix still in the hospital in mind, she quickly freshened up before heading there.
Gazing at Lyla, Felix grinned. “Were you in a hurry to get here?”
“How did you know?” Lyla replied with a question.
Felix reached out a hand and pointed at the buttons on her clothes.
Lyla lowered her gaze to find she buttoned up all wrong.
Awkward.
With an embarrassed look on her face, Lyla turned around and redid her buttons.
Felix stared at her and laughed. “Don’t rush yourself next time.”
“Got it.” Lyla gave him a smile.
Just then, Shadow came bearing breakfast.
Felix looked towards her. “I bet you haven’t had breakfast?”
Lyla nodded.
“Have some.”
“It’s okay. I’m not that hungry.”
“I bought enough for two,” Shadow spoke.
There was no need for Lyla to be polite then. “Okay.”
Felix Chu led as Lyla unboxed the breakfast food. She first handed some to Felix to eat but the latter merely stared at her. “Have some first. I don’t have the appetite.”
“I’m not going to eat if you don’t,” Lyla replied.
Left with no choice, Felix dug in.
“But, you might have to feed me.”
“Alright, I’ll agree to it for now since you got hurt because of me.” Lyla served him breakfast.
As he fixated on her serious and attentive self, Felix had the impulse to keep her by his side forever.
“Will you get full just watching me?” Lyla commented.
“I’d rather starve myself if I can keep watching you like this.”
“Smooth talker.”
Felix grinned.
Lyla ignored him. Most of the time, she paid no heed to the words coming out of Felix’s mouth.
After breakfast, the doctor came in to check up on Felix. They engaged in a long conversation.
The surgery was possible but it could only be done after the blood clot in his brain had dissolved.
The only thing feasible at present was to dissolve the clot in his brain as soon as possible.
Hearing this, Lyla dwelled in her thoughts. It was not known when the blood clot could dissolve itself. In other words, there was no way she could return as planned.
With that in mind, her heart sank.
Listening to the same input from the doctor, Felix turned his gaze towards her before lowering his eyes. He remained silent.
The doctor walked out after informing several things to note.
Having pulled herself together, Lyla kept a blank expression the whole time.
Felix happened to turn to her. “In that case, the surgery would have to be delayed, you...”
Lyla gave him a comforting smile. “We’ll discuss this once you’re better.”
“Aren’t you in a hurry to get back?”
Lyla turned around to pour a glass of water. “No matter the rush, I still want to wait until you’re all better.”
Felix let out an understanding smile.
......
Meanwhile, on the other side.
With the wedding coming to a standstill, Hansel and Gretel had to return for training.
They had been pressed to hurry up.
Hansel and Gretel did not give their input. They had been living with Felix for several years after all. Obviously, they had built a relationship between them.
“Fine, I’ll just wait to hear from you,” Lingo said. She propped an arm against the table and brought her charm to full play. “But I have to say, I’m guessing Jack will come for you if you delay your return any longer.”
“Really? I haven’t seen Jack’s face before.” Gretel was looking forward to it.
Hansel rolled his eyes at her. “You probably will be able to see him every day until you’re bored of it.”
“No, I will never get bored over hunks.”
Her statement called for another eye-following. “There’s already someone good-looking around you.”
Gretel furrowed her brows. “Where?”
“Closer than you know.”
Catching the meaning, Gretel smiled. “Hansel, that joke is not funny at all.”
“It’s not a joke but a fact.”
“Really?” Gretel sized him up. “How come I can’t tell?”
“We’re twins. Look at yourself.”
“Oh, quite a looker.”
Hansel. “...”
Oh, how honest.
Lingo stood at the sidelines and watched, curling her lips. In some ways, Gretel shared a similar temperament to her.
Her laziness, her love of poking fun at people, her love of hunks, etc.
Of course, it took one type of character to have a love for hot guys. Regular men simply did not cut it.
The siblings were at the end of their squabble when Hansel’s phone rang. He picked it up for a look. The contact displayed put a smile on Hansel’s face.
He swept a glance at Lingo.
Lingo frowned. As a special agent, she could tell that the phone had something to do with her from that one look.
She stayed quiet as she waited for him to speak up.
Hansel took the call. “What’s up?”
“Where are you?”
“Me? I’m outside.”
“Outside?”
“Together with a beautiful woman.”
On the other end of the line, Logan’s heart fluttered. “Lingo?”
“Yes, what’s up?”
Logan did not have a nice tone before but now excitement stirred in his voice. “Uh, where are you guys?”
Instead of replying to the question, Hansel kept him in suspense. “Is something the matter for you to call me?”
“Duh.”
“Say whatever you need to say.”
“I-I... I bought some stuff for you. Where are you now? I’ll send it over.” Logan began to spew nonsense in eagerness.
Despite knowing it was all baloney, he must be drunk to say such a thing.
“You bought something for me?” Hansel was in disbelief.
