Nevertheless, Hansel was keen.

At this very moment, he could accept any excuse no matter how lame it was.

It was not as though Mark disliked him. The man had even looked for an excuse to hit the sack with him.

Hansel acted all mature. “Alright, I’m going to take a bath!”

“Sure!”

With that, Hansel left for a wash while Mark went into Lyla’s room.

It did not take long before Hansel was done with his bath. After putting on his pajamas, he walked into the room and noticed Mark lying in bed. The boy climbed into bed. “Mr. Pattinson, aren’t you going to take a bath?”

“I don’t have any clothes to change into so I won't be taking one!” Mark answered with his arms resting under his head. He appeared weary.

“Okay then!” Hansel nodded and lay down.

“It’s really late so you should get some sleep!” Mark said.

“Okay!” Hansel nodded. After all the excitement in one day, he finally started to simmer down. Only, he was wide awake from sharing a bed with Mark.

There was a certain wonderful feeling inside him that was utterly inconceivable.

Who would have thought that he would lie in the same bed as Mark to rest? This was something he dared not imagine before.

All was calm within yet there sparked an indescribable joy.

Just then, one of Mark’s arms shifted over and gathered Hansel into his embrace.

Hansel was caught off guard but Mark was without a word as he cuddled the boy to sleep.

The boy had no idea if Mark was actually asleep. However, why should he hold back since Mark showed such audacity in the first place? With that, Hansel extended a leg and planted it over Mark.

Seeing that the man had no reaction, Hansel reached out one arm and tucked it on his waist.

With Mark still dead to the world, Hansel closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Only, the pair’s sleeping positions were rather... intimate.

…...

The next day.

The phone rang persistently while the father and son combo were still in slumberland.

Hansel begrudgingly opened his eyes. He was still sleepy from falling asleep really late yesterday.

He fumbled around a long time before locating the phone. Without taking a glance, Hansel pressed to accept the call and positioned the phone against his ear.

“Hello...”

“Hansel, are you still asleep?”

“Uh, yes...” Hansel listlessly responded.

“Get up and read the news! Quick, get up!” Gretel shouted through the phone.

“What’s up?”

“You’ll know when you get up and read about it. I can guarantee that you’ll be pleasantly surprised!” Gretel replied.

“Okay, got it!” Hansel acknowledged in return before hanging up.

Leaving the phone in bed, he continued his sleep.

Nonetheless, Hansel dozed off for only a second before waking up with a startle. With Gretel’s words coming into mind, he nudged Mark. “Mr. Pattinson, lend me your phone!”

Mark was a little out of it. He had not slept much for the past few days and finally had better sleep last night. Without a word, he fished out his phone and gave it to Hansel right away.

With the phone in his hands, Hansel was still reluctant to open his eyes yet had to open them anyway. Mark’s phone was specifically custommade and different from any ordinary cell phone. Hansel struggled in the beginning but got the hang of it after going at it for a while.

To a sharp-witted person, this was nothing.

After getting the knack of it, Hansel soon caught sight of the headlines of the day.

He was less than enthusiastic at first but following a glance at the news, his eyes widened.

The house of Aron Turner, mayor of Alpine City, was blown up. It looked like a case of vengeance being taken.

Hansel immediately clicked on the video to watch. The video showed many people rushing to the scene in a rescue attempt.

It was a busy situation. It was not long before Aron’s family rushed out of the house in an unspeakable flurry.

Subsequent to that, the latest news popped up onto the screen.

Someone had reported Aron for bribery and corruption, and formal investigations had been launched.

Reading the news, Hansel lost all sleepiness and was in a great mood.

With the news out of the way, he checked on Twitter and noticed the event was already trending.

This incident happened in a flash and came on too suddenly. However, the higher ups had to set great importance on the whistleblowing and conduct an investigation into Aron.

Alpine City was shook once again by the news. To avoid arousing suspicion, everyone denied involvement with Aron.

The supposed inconstancy of human relationship was such.

Only, who was behind Aron’s undoing?

His line of vision rested on Mark.

Could it be him?

Sure, he had not killed Kathleen with his own hands, but the Turners were basically done for should the situation be confirmed.

With that in mind, Hansel was not that angry anymore.

Going through Twitter with Mark’s phone, Hansel got the latest updates. There were all kinds of discussions revolving around the incident as people came up with various theories of their own.

Hearing Hansel’s giggles, Mark opened his eyes with much difficulty. “What’s the matter? What are you laughing at?”

“Something worth being happy about!” Hansel answered.

Mark sat up with a frown.

Hansel proceeded to hand over the phone to him. “Take your time and have a look. I’m going to freshen up and make breakfast!” He got off the bed.

Taking over the phone, Mark happened to glance at the investigation into Aron and merely frowned without showing any other emotions. It appeared as though he had already known about it...

Hansel gazed at her. “Mommy, did you forget what happened?” He asked.

Frowning at the question, Lyla’s mind flew back to the scene before the accident.

It seemed like someone wanted to run her over with a car...

“It looked as though someone was trying to run me over!” Lyla blurted out.

Following these words, Lyla turned her eyes towards Hansel, afraid that he might be worried. However, the boy gave no reaction even after the long observation.

Moreover, he remained calm.

Nonetheless, it never crossed her mind why someone would want to kill her.

Furthermore, it was definitely no accident. She was well aware of that.

However, who could it be?

“Is it possible that I was a victim of a robbery?” She mumbled to herself.

This was said to put Hansel at ease.

Who would have thought that Hansel knew what’s what more than she did?

Faced with Hansel’s silence, Lyla frowned. “Hansel, what’s wrong?”

The latter shook his head. “I’m alright, just a little worried about you!”

Lyla smiled at the remark. “Silly, aren’t I all right? It’s not like you come across robberies everyday, you know!”

It would be better if it was a robbery but this was not the case. Hansel was clear on that fact.

He even stopped to consider getting Mommy to remain at home. Hansel’s mind could not be at rest if she went out.

Notwithstanding, he was reminded of the fact that his mommy was not the type to settle down. Hence, the idea was thrown out the window.

“Don’t worry, I’m really fine, okay?” Lyla told Hansel.

Hansel finally nodded.

Lyla was at a loss of words but she was conscious that it was clearly not a robbery as her life would not be sought after. However, who could it possibly be?

With that in mind, she lifted the bowl for a sip but suddenly recalled seeing Mark seconds before passing out the moment before the bowl touched her lips.

He was obviously there during that time!

Was she sent to the hospital by Mark?

How did Hansel find out...?

She was riddled with questions. In fact, it all boiled down to Lyla’s fear of Mark discovering Hansel’s existence.

Lyla abruptly lifted her head. “How did I make it to the hospital? How did you know I am here?” She probed.

“About this...” Hansel was contemplating on an answer, wondering if his mommy would go mad over an honest response.

His brows furrowed at that thought. Turning his gaze to the door, Hansel wondered why his daddy was taking so long on a call and had not appeared.
