Chapter 20
Wayne was slightly taken aback. He thought to himself, “A promise? What promise?”
He thought about it for a long time. It wasn’t until he saw Eddie carrying the diffuser into his bedroom that he realized what it was.
Back when they were in Gromore, Eddie had promised to trust Nydia.
But…
He scratched the back of his head, wondering if trusting her was really worth the risk. There seemed to be no need to put his own life on the line for that.
However, Eddie had made his decision. As his assistant, Wayne didn’t dare question it. All he could do was sacrifice his sleep to keep a closer watch.
Norman woke up early. Today was the day he was going to kindergarten.
But when he got up, the villa was eerily quiet. Something was off.
Usually, by this time, Eddie would already be in the living room, listening to department heads report on their work. The noise was unbearable, and Norman would usually find it annoying.
He furrowed his brow and walked downstairs.
The department heads were already looking worried. However, Wayne was calm, not allowing anyone to speak.
“Good morning, Mr. Norman.”
Wayne said softly, “Breakfast is ready. After you eat, Keith will take you to school.”
Norman, filled with confusion, wasn’t in a hurry to eat. Instead, he asked, “Mr. Ortega, what’s going on? Where’s Uncle Eddie?”
“Mr. Eddie hasn’t woken up yet,” Wayne replied,
Norman’s eyes widened. “What?”
He wondered if he had misheard.
Since he could remember, Eddie had always been a night owl who rarely slept. Even when he did, it was only for two or three hours at most. He never stayed in bed for long.
“Is Uncle Eddie sick?” Norman asked. This was the only explanation he could think of.
And then it hit him. He had forgotten someone else. “What about Ms. Vega? Did you guys send
Chopper 20
her away? She knows how to treat illnesses. Bring her back quickly.”
Wayne placed his finger on his lips. “Mr. Norman, keep your voice down. Ms. Vega hasn’t woken up yet.”
Norman blinked in surprise. Usually, Wayne spoke in his usual manner. But today, everything seemed odd, and Norman couldn’t quite understand what was going on.
“Mr. Norman, Ms. Vega has been staying here since last night, right next to your room.”
Norman was in disbelief. Given Eddie’s usual temperament, he would have expected him to send Nydia home. The fact that she stayed over was completely unexpected.
He rushed up the stairs, and as he reached Nydia’s door, he saw someone coming around the
corner. It was Eddie.
“Uncle Eddie?”
Something was different about him today. In the past, Eddie had always seemed like he was surrounded by clouds, dark and oppressive. Sometimes, Norman even found him a bit intimidating.
But today, Eddie seemed to be bathed in sunlight warm and approachable, almost as if he was a different person.
“Hmm? You’re not going to school?” Eddie asked.
Seeing that Eddie wasn’t sick and seemed in better shape, Norman finally relaxed.
s messy hair
The next moment, Eddie mentioned school. Norman immediately deflated. His messy seemed to droop along with his mood. “I want Ms. Vega to take me.”
“No, it’s unnecessary to trouble others,” Eddie replied firmly.
“But Ms. Vega stayed here because of me.” Norman protested, his eyes wide in disbelief.
‘She has more important things to do,” Eddie said.
“Then I’ll make sure Ms. Vega stays here today.”
Eddie paused. “Fine.”
Norman grinned, clearly satisfied. “Then I’ll sleep with Ms. Vega tonight.”
Eddie’s brow furrowed. “No.”
“I will! You bullied Ms. Vega yesterday. Otherwise, why hasn’t she woken up? I’m going to protect her tonight,” Norman said, righteous anger in his eyes, completely unaware of the unintended meaning behind his words.
Eddie’s expression froze.
If they really thought about it, Eddie had indeed been harsh on others, but he never bullied
Chappe 20
Nydia.
Seeing him like this, Norman felt even more justified. “Ms. Vega Is mine, she can’t be treated badly.”
Eddie’s lips curved up slightly. “What if you wet the bed..
“Ah, Uncle Eddie, don’t say it! Bad Uncle!” Norman’s face flushed. But he didn’t dare raise his voice too much, afraid of waking Nydia up.
Eddie raised an eyebrow. “So, are you going to school or not?”
Norman instantly deflated, like a defeated rooster. “Fine, I’ll go to school.”
He reluctantly agreed, but he wasn’t giving up. Tonight, he would fight again, having made up
his mind.
When Nydia woke up, it was already well past 10:00 am. She stretched and grabbed her phone to check the time. When she saw that it was already 10:00 am, she sat up in a rush.
“Oh my god, I overslept! I’m going to be late.” She quickly hurried out of the room.
Wayne gave her a friendly reminder. “Ms. Vega, we’ve already requested your leave. You can sleep in a bit longer.”
Nydia paused. “Leave?”
“Yes.” Wayne smiled. “You mentioned you needed to adjust the prescription for Mr. Houle
today.”
Nydia slapped her forehead. She had almost forgotten. It was because she had been thinking about the usage of a certain herb late into the night that she had overslept.
“Alright then. Can you gather a few things for me?”
