lick didn’t know how to respond. He couldn’t remember Nydia’s birthday and had never lebrated it for her. How could he possibly remember anyone else’s?

I know how much you treasure these pictures, so I replaced the old album with a new one and ad them all framed nicely. I…” 

he lay the album open in front of Mick and displayed photos of school days, including ictures he’d taken with Mona. 

here were pictures taken on the campus paths, images of them performing together onstage, nd playful scruffles in class… 

hose pictures were indeed memories of youth, but Mick remembered Nydia had once told im she was a small–town girl. She had a goal during her school years to leave the mountains nd achieve enough success to inspire other girls to dream bigger.
