While Mick was ruthless, Buck had never wronged her. On the contrary, he had even offered het a way out of awkward situations on several occasions. 

She wiped her hands, then said, “Norman, I need to work overtime. I’ll leave Bella in your care.

“Ms. Vega, will you come back?” 

Nydia nodded, reassuring him, “I’ll come visit Bella whenever I have the chance. You need to take good care of her, alright?” 

“Okay.” He suddenly felt a sense of responsibility and was energized. “I promise to complete the mission!” 

Nydia chuckled at his response, grabbed her coat, and left to hail a cab. 

Meanwhile, on the second floor, Eddie was standing before a window with a teacup in his hand. 

Next to him, Wayne was giving him a report. 

“There’s news from the hospital. Mr. Wilcher made a call.” 

Eddie’s hand froze briefly, spilling a few drops of tea. 

Downstairs, a cab sped away, disappearing into the traffic flow. 

Wayne lowered his gaze and added, “Mr. Barton Senior is critically ill. Mr. Houle, you should pay him a visit. Shall I arrange a time?” 

Eddie set the teacup down and said, “Yeah.” 

His tone was calm, making his emotions indiscemible.

Having decided to come and help, Nydia wanted to make the most of her time examining the patient. She didn’t want to waste any energy arguing with Mick, so she ignored his comment and headed straight for the operating room. 

Before she could leave, Buck suddenly stood up and grabbed her arm. “Nydia!” 

His eyes were red. 

“Call me Dr. Vega.” 

Buck was taken aback. “You…” 

“As a doctor, I will do my best. Beyond that, I cant make you any promises.” 

That was the first time Mick and Buck had seen Nydia so resolute. Her demeanor radiated a 

calm fearlessness, a readiness to face challenges head–on no matter how daunting they may

The doors to the operating room opened, then closed again.

Inside the operating room, Nydia changed into sterile scrubs and reported to the group of specialists. 

“You’re here,” one of them greeted her. 

Mr. Barton Senior was already under anesthesia, and another specialist was making an incision into his chest. 

With one cut, the faintly beating heart was exposed under the surgical light, casting a heavy atmosphere over the room. 

Nydia nodded briefly at the specialist who greeted her, then focused her attention on the operating table.
