Chapter 62
Austin said, “Alright, you can go back now.”
Nydia stepped out of the office and lightly patted her chest. At first, she had been scared, but soon after, the excitement took over. Her heart was racing.
Back in the doctor’s office, she began to make the transition to another shift. Just in time, she ran into Maisie. Maisie had worked the night shift, dealing with a patient who had a sudden medical emergency, leaving her sleepless and drained.
But when she saw Nydia, Maisie’s energy seemed to surge. She even managed a smirk. “You made it just in time for your shift? How lucky. Once you’re on a regular schedule, you’ll probably be even happier.”
In the past, Nydia had felt a bit guilty for not staying late to help her colleagues, so she would endure Maisie’s mockery. However, now that she understood Maisie’s motives…
She thought, “Life is too short to keep appeasing others. Why should I hold myself back for her?”
“You can’t finish your work, so it’s normal for you to envy someone as capable as me. But no need to keep yapping like a dog that can’t see beyond its yard,” Nydia replied.
Maisie was furious, stomping her foot and glaring at Nydia. “Nydia, you have no shame! You leave so early every day–when have you ever bothered to clean the office? People like you belong in the logistics department, where someone can keep an eye on you and make sure you
don’t slack off.”
Nydia was a little shocked. She never expected the reason for the resentment to be that she didn’t clean the office. But the rule was usually whoever left last was supposed to clean up.
And since there was always cleaning staff, the office was hardly ever dirty–just taking out the trash was the main task.
More importantly, even though she didn’t clean at night, Nydia always came early in the morning to disinfect and tidy up the office. She wondered if that effort hadn’t counted for something.
“So, your job focus is cleaning the office? In that case, maybe you should transfer to the logistics department.‘
Maisie sneered. “Oh, I should? Well, let me tell you, the list for transfers to the logistics department is coming out soon. Someone like you will be transferred there.”
Nydia shrugged nonchalantly. “Instead of improving your skills, you’re just hoping others. will clear the way for you? Come on… If your looks are bad, you can always get plastic surgery. But that nasty attitude of yours? Unfortunately, there’s no fixing that.”
“You!” Maisie’s face darken with rage.
“The logistics transfer list is out,” their colleague, Kevin Cooke, mentioned casually nearby. It’s all staff who were injured during the earthquake relief efforts.”
“That’s good. They can’t perform surgeries anymore, but working in the logistics department. might give them a fresh start.”
Maisie immediately spun around and grabbed Kevin. “Is it just those people? What about Nydia?”
Kevin blinked in confusion. “Nydia? She’s perfectly fine. Why would she be transferred to the logistics department.”
Maisie’s jaw clenched so tight it seemed her molars might crack. The application she had secretly submitted for Nydia hadn’t gone through.
Kevin gave her a strange look as if suddenly remembering something. “Oh, by the way, Mr. Neel asked me to tell you–you’ve been reassigned to the branch starting today. Don’t forget to report there.”
“What? The branch?” Maisie’s heart plummeted. “That’s impossible!”
