Xavier saw how quickly I dodged and sat up properly. Then, he burst into laughter. He pressed his hand against his temples and forehead. He laughed so hard that he was out of breath.

"Luna, are you an elementary school kid? Why are you sitting so upright? And you even hid your hand behind your back. It's hilarious!"

I looked at my sitting posture, my back straight and my knees together. My hand was quietly clenched into a fist behind my back. I really did resemble an elementary school student who was being disciplined by the teacher if not for the lack of a backpack, my height, and my age.

Because of what he said, I suddenly remembered the time when I was about seven or eight years old. Back then, I was skinny and sitting in the front row of the classroom with this exact same posture, staring at the blackboard with wide eyes.

After more than a decade, I was already an adult now. I unexpectedly felt a different kind of nostalgia and joy as I recalled the bits and pieces of my childhood.

Xavier continued to laugh loudly, and it was too infectious. Gradually, I started to laugh along with him.

The atmosphere was quite relaxed. As we got to know each other better, we began to chat about our childhood. When we talked about something happy, we would burst into laughter together, attracting the attention of the others in the dining room who would glance over from time to time.

The conversation that followed was very enjoyable, even though he was doing most of the talking.

He said he was forced to start painting from the age of three or four and wasn't allowed to stop until his assigned tasks were completed. He wet his pants several times because of that.

He also said he tried his best to learn about painting and even won many awards. But his father would always criticize him and compare him to other people, which shattered his confidence to paint.

I understood from his candid sharing that his struggles included the comparison between Colin back then and the current me.

If I thought about it, our presence had made Xavier's life harder.

But it was not our fault as talent was a mysterious thing.
