Kevin pushed forward, trying to restrain him, his hands grasping his shoulders with force. “You have to calm down, sir!” 

But how could he? How could he just stay still when his entire world was out there, scared and alone? 

“She still hasn’t called!?” Alexander snapped, his tone rough with desperation as he spun to Kevin. 

Kevin just stood there, quiet, his silence speaking louder than his words would. “No, sir.” 

Alexander cursed under his breath. They had left all the phone lines open, waiting, hoping, praying for Annie to call and demand a ransom. 

But she hadn’t. 

Fuck the Blackthorn Holdings. 

Fuck every damn cent he had! 

He didn’t care about the empire he had built, didn’t care about the wealth he had amassed. It was nothing without them. 

Without her! 

Without his children. 

His fingers trembled as he wiped away the tears that threatened to fall. His pain was suffocating him, wrapping around his chest, but he could not afford to fall. Not yet.
