The yard is empty and quiet.

From what it looks like, the whole area is not just abandoned, but even off the power grid. Twilight brushes a bloody orange on the edge of the sky, and instantly the buildings turn dark with no light anywhere.

Like a monster on its stomach, mouth open for prey.

She tries to look for an emergency phone, which might still be on, but if Sebastian already tried to call the police, then that wouldn’t help anyone. She can try to sneak out of the area and look for help once she makes it. But at the moment...

She barely remembers how to start a car without a key from the one-time search online. She’s not even sure if she could do that with modern cars. But this is her best shot.

Sneaking to the window of the main warehouse and hiding under it, Scar looks through the glass as stealth as she can, only to freeze when she sees clear of the inside of the room--

Sebastian is in the center of the room, surrounded by four men. His hand holding a baseball bat is bleeding. Blood dripping from his frim wrist. Panting heavily, the man is under extreme pain and stress, but his hand is not shaking. The bat is like his sword, marking out a death circle that alarms his opponents.

But the peace-on-thin-ice is only temporary.

The thugs are not making a move on him only because they know full well that Sebastian can only take down one of them at a time, and they all want the others to be that unlucky one.

Time is on the thugs’ side, and their best shot is the car.

Scar sneaks to the right end of the warehouse and sticks her head out. Ten feet away, maybe twenty. The front yard is right across the narrow way between the two houses, and in the middle of it, two cars.

Aiming at the older-looking car, Scar charges forward as fast as she can.
