Alice turned to the doorway, her pupils constricting. It was her fifth brother, Lewis. He was back. She remembered from her past life that he’d been at her third brother’s lab, handling the pharmaceutical company’s affairs.
Chloe, overjoyed at seeing the man in the wheelchair, ran to him and embraced him.“Fifth brother, you’re finally back!”
“Yes, I’m back. No one will bully you anymore.” Lewis held Chloe, his eyes full of tenderness.
Chloe murmured, “Fifth brother, you’re all I have now.”
After comforting Chloe, Lewis maneuvered his wheelchair to Alice, his face stern.“What was your promise to me?”
Alice paused, remembering his meaning. She had promised to get along with Chloe and take care of her.
Alice laughed, her eyes cold.“I was an idiot back then.”

“Alice, you owe Chloe a life, and you owe me a leg.” Lewis’s tone was accusatory.“Unless you become crippled like me, you’ll owe me for life.”
Alice felt a sharp pain in her chest. But she quickly recovered her composure.“Are Your leg was lost in a lab fire. When did I owe you a leg?”
you mistaken?
“My leg could have been saved. You told the doctor to amputate, so I became disabled. Third brother now has the miracle drug. If my leg hadn’t been amputated, it could have been cured.”
Alice found it ridiculous. When Lewis was rushed to the hospital, only she and Chloe were there; the other brothers couldn’t make it. The doctor had asked her to decide on amputation because his leg couldn’t be saved, and it was life–threatening. She’d chosen amputation to save Lewis’s life. Now, everything was blamed on her.
Alice finally understood why Lewis disliked her he blamed her for his amputation.
Alice’s tone was cold.“If I hadn’t chosen amputation, you’d be six feet under. You’d only be able to contact me through a ghost story.‘
“Alice, you’re still unrepentant?” Lewis was furious that Alice refused to admit fault.
Chloe quickly said, “Fifth brother, don’t get SO angry. You’ll hurt yourself.”
Lewis calmed down. He looked at Chloe.“Tell me, you were there. Did Alice make the decision to amputate?”
Chloe lowered her eyes. The doctor treated us like children and asked for a family member’s decision. I didn’t expect Alice to make the decision and sign the consent form.”
Lewis said indignantly, “Alice, did I wrong you?”
Alice’s lips curled.“No one could get there on time. The doctor said he would die from blood loss if they didn’t act immediately. Didn’t Ethan know?” She had saved Lewis’s life. She looked at Ethan.“The doctor called you, didn’t he?”
Ethan looked uneasy.“He did, but I said I’d decide when I arrived. Where did you get the authority to sign the consent form?”
“It was a life–or–death situation. I called you before making the decision, but you didn’t answer!” Alice was also angry. She was young
and scared then. She had to choose between his life and his

leg. And she took the blame.
Ethan frowned.“I was on
my way. I didn’t answer because of something that “But what if you hadn’t arrived on time? What if he had died because of the debat “That’s impossible. The doctor wouldn’t have done nothing. Alice, you are responsible. Yox one your fifth brother.” Ethan shifted all the blame to Alice.
Alice stared at Ethan coldly.“You didn’t say that then. You said if you couldn’t yet there in fime, to listen to the doctor.”
“Alice, you must have misheard me. I said to have the doctor try his best to save his leg, not to amputate immediately.” Ethan was angry.“Alice, you were scared because you were young, you must have misremembered.”
Alice took a deep breath. She knew Ethan wouldn’t admit it. She’d seen the land family’s selfishness.
She looked at Lewis coldly.“I followed the doctor’s advice and signed. I don’t think it’s my responsibility. If you disagree, sue the doctor.”
“Alice, do you think I’m wronging you? Third brother also said amputation wasn’t the best option You didn’t insist on further treatment and agreed to amputation.” Lewis had been depressed about it. If Alice hadn’t agreed to the amputation, he wouldn’t be disabled A Chloe, pleased, added, “Alice, I haven’t said anything for years, but I have to say this. you ad suggest amputation.”
