That made Mike speechless. A promise was something abstract and vague. Even if Mike were to guarantee it with his life, it would be unable to reverse any damage if Alexander took Mike’s life should anything happen to Lily.

A moment of hesitation later, Lily, in Alexander’s arms, said, “Then, what if I’m the one to promise you that?”

Alexander and Mike were stunned.

Alexander lowered his head and looked at Lily. She raised her head slightly to meet his gaze, a faint smile on her face. “I promise I’ll take good care of myself. I’ll stop if I immediately sense any danger or if something feels off. I’ll prioritize my and our baby’s safety at all times. What about that?”

Lily even raised her hand to swear on her words. She appeared to be serious about it.

Alexander did not know what to say for a moment. If it were anyone else, he would have many things to retort to them. However, it was Lily who would always make him feel helpless. She knew this clearly and took advantage of it as well.

However, Alexander still squeezed his lips shut and stayed silent as he struggled in his mind. He was genuinely unwilling to put her in any dangerous situation. It terrified him.

“It’s different now. I know the organization is desperate for Lily’s abilities and her help in their experiments. They should be in a dire state for them to pressure me this way. I’ll admit I have selfish reasons.

“I want to relieve my burdens, for my son to be safer, and to buy myself more time. Still, you must agree that this is the best and fastest way to settle this issue,” Mike persuaded when he noticed Alexander’s hesitation.

Alexander widened his eyes and looked at her. Although she was petite and cooped up in his arms, her face still slightly flushed from earlier incidents, she looked as determined as ever. Every word she said sent chills up their spines.

‘She mentioned they wanted to use the vaccines to speed up the transmission of the virus. By then…’

The thought itself was terrifying enough. By then, it would not be the problem of merely a few people or families. It would be catastrophic destruction for humankind.

‘What the hell were those people trying to do?!’
