Andre was trying his best to follow the assembly instructions, while little Henry was enthusiastically “helping” out by his side. One moment, he’d be leaning on his dad’s back, whispering sweet nothings and reaching out with his tiny hands. The next, he’d be squatting beside him, adding to the delightful chaos.
If Andre didn’t let him pitch in, it was like he was dismissing Henry’s efforts, and a mini-meltdown was sure to ensue. Eventually, Andre pulled his son into his arms, hugging Henry close as they both tried to figure out the assembly together.
Normally, a handyman could've handled this, but Andre wanted to personally build a swing for his wife, turning it into a family project. But of course, his little mischief-maker was always up to something...
“Henry, where’d you stash Dad’s screwdriver?”
“Henry, what happened to the nails I just had here?”
“Henry, don’t mess with the hammer; you might hurt your little toes. Hand it over to Dad.”
“Henry…”
Mia was off to the side, capturing it all on video. These were moments to remember.
Eventually, Andre threw in the towel on the father-son bonding time, as his little helper was becoming too much of a handful. He gently moved Henry a bit further away and quickly returned to the instructions.
But Henry, ever determined, toddled back to his dad in no time, wrapping his little arms around Andre’s neck and planting kisses on him, trying to charm his way out of trouble before his restless little feet started playing on the planks again.
Mia decided to join in on the assembly, “Honey, am I doing this right?”
Andre sighed, “...Mia, why don’t you and Henry play over there?”
“Our son might be causing a ruckus, but I’m genuinely trying to help you.”
Andre looked at Mia, who was more of a hindrance than a help, and then at his eager little troublemaker.
Then, he called Henry’s pediatrician, “Hey, Dr. Hester. Quick question: Henry has been outside playing and now he's coughing with a runny nose. Is it okay for him to take adult cold medicine?”
Whatever Dr. Hester replied was not mentioned, but Andre nodded knowingly, “Please text me the name of the medicine. I’ll go grab it.”
After hanging up, Andre donned his coat and changed his shoes at the door. “Mia, make sure to take your medicine and eat something. I’ll be back soon with Henry’s meds.”
“Honey, let’s come along,” Mia said, clinging to her little one.
Henry’s nose started to run again, and before he could lick it away, his clean-freak mom had already wiped it off.
Andre squeezed his son’s little hand, “It’s chilly outside, I’ll be back soon.”
He drove off to get the medicine, while Mia settled Henry on the sofa, coaxing him to drink some warm water. Watching her son’s persistent runny nose tugged at Mia’s heartstrings. She couldn’t bring herself to use a tissue on his delicate face, so she opted for soft, moist wipes instead.
