He wasn’t crying anymore, and Cooper had stopped prying.

Over dinner, they started talking about the hospital visit planned for tomorrow. Instead of heading back to the Irvin family house that night, the three of them would go straight to the Cedillo place, so they could pick up the grandparents in the morning and take them together.

Mia said, “All three generations of the Cedillo family should get checked out.”

Cooper just went, “Okay,” and then looked at Andre. “Hey, I want a drink tonight.”

Before Andre could say anything, Mrs. Cedillo cut in, “No way. Your brother-in-law’s got a physical tomorrow, you’ve got evening classes, and if you both drink, who’s driving? Me or Henry?”

“Mooom,” Cooper groaned.

Mia shot him a look. “Nice try. With those little paws of yours, you can barely hold your dad’s steering wheel.”

Henry looked down at his own tiny hands, then glanced up at his dad’s much bigger ones. No contest—his were definitely small.

Andre just smiled and scooped up his chubby little guy, holding him close.

After dinner, they all went for a walk in the nearby park.

It was an eco-park that Andre had funded, all because of his son.

There was a local rumor that Bruce had put up a giant tiger statue at the entrance as a landmark. Some folks said, “Tigers are lucky—fierce enough to keep evil spirits away and keep everyone safe.” Others insisted, “It’s because the park was built in the Year of the Tiger, that’s why there’s a tiger.”

Everyone had their own theory.

Bruce never explained the real reason. It was all just gossip and guessing.

Meanwhile, the real little sweetheart was being fussed over by his parents and Cooper. They made sure his elbows, knees, and head were all protected before the big one and the little one headed off to try skateboarding together.

Mia trailed behind, calling her mom, who was off traveling, just to check in and see if she was having fun.
