CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX.

*********************

BRINLEY.

After dinner with Kelsy and Ryder, I sent Delores off to bed. She looked worn out, so I told her I would clean up, and Kelsy offered to help. At the same time, Xander and Ryder stepped out into the backyard. I washed while Kelsy dried the dishes, her lips formed a thin line, and I knew she had something on her mind.

"Spit it out,"

A frown formed on Kelsy's face. "Why didn't you tell me? About the baby, I mean,"

"Because Xander and I aren't together. He is only pretending in front of dad, and he even told his brother Knox to say this baby is his." Kelsy gasped. "You're kidding?"

I shook my head, "I'm not going to lie to you. But please don't tell papa,"

"I wouldn't," She said, shaking her head, "But I can't believe it, though, how he looks at you. It's like he's in love,"

"Really? If he loved me, he wouldn't be pawning his child on his brother and raising a sluts baby," Kelsy nods, "True. And his brother is okay with all of this?"

Knox and Lucy both say they are okay with this, but I never really asked them because I'm still hoping Xander will change his mind. But, first, I need to talk to Knock and Lucy and find their true feelings.

I sigh, "Knox and his mate both claim to be okay with this,"

"Wait," Kelsy says as she puts the last dish away.

"You mean to tell me that Xander's brother Knox has a mate? And Xander is okay with coming between them with this crap?"

I nod.

Kelsy shakes her head, "I can't believe that. What brother would want to cause problems like that,"

I shrugged my shoulders because I didn't know the words to say. After all, Kelsy was right. I don't understand how Xander could want problems between Knox and Lucy. They have both been good to me, and it's wrong to do this.

"Xander says it's because he doesn't want our baby in this crap that his great grandfather made with the Mortaga kingdom. But, in reality? I think he is ashamed of me because I was a slave in his kingdom, and I'm only seventeen."

"How old is he?" She asks.

"Twenty-Eight,"

"Oh, I see." Kelsy nods her head, "So, what's the plan?"

I arch my brow, "What do you mean, plan? I have no plans."

Kelsy folds her arm across her chest, "So, you're just going to let your ex-best friend have him? Without a fight?"

"What should I do?"

Kelsy smiles, "That's easy." She pauses, "Fight for him,"

I rose a brow, "How can I fight?" I motioned to my growing belly, "If you forgot, I'm pregnant. And so is Julia," Kelsy shrugs, "Not actual fight. I mean, show him all of you. Make him want you the way you want him,"

"Ugh, I don't know how to make him fall for me."

Kelsy slaps my shoulder playfully, "You better learn if you don't want to lose him,"

Kelsy's right! I need to stand up and fight for what's mine. Xander might not like the idea, but I am his mate. Like it or not, that's how the goddess intended it.

"I don't want to lose him. But I can't force him either,"

Kelsy shakes her head, "Come on. Ryder just linked me to bring out some beers,"

"I see he is still lazy,"

Kelsy laughs, "Of course he is. But I love him anyway."

Kelsy hands me a beer that I'm sure is for Xander—following behind her to the back yard I see him sitting on the chair beside Ryder.

"Here, Monkey," Kelsy tells Ryder as she hands him his drink and sits beside him. I give Xander his beer, and he mumbles a 'Thank You.' I make for the chair next to Xander, which is the only chair left when Xander wraps his arm around my waist and pulls me onto his lap.

I let out a shriek, and Kelsy and Ryder laugh at my expense.

Kelsy gives me a look, but I ignore her and stir uncomfortably.

I feel Xander's hot breath on my neck as his lips find my ear. A pleasurable shiver runs down my spine.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you," He whispers.

My forehead creased as I met his darkened gaze. Xander's lip tilted upward in a smirk when he realized I was clueless.

He leans in again, "Sit still, or what comes up, you'll have to get down,"

My eyes widen, fully aware of that meant now. My heart was pounding against my chest. Why? Part of me was happy that I turned him on. I watched as his black eyes turned back into that bright silver that I love so much.

Ryder pops the cap on Xander's beer, and he brings the bottle slowly towards his lips as he tips his back, drinking half of the bottle in one go.

I chew on my bottom lip and avert my eyes to keep from staring at his gorgeous face.

"As I told Xander, you need to join us tomorrow when we play."

"I'm not that into it," Xander tells Ryder.

"Into what?" Kelsy asks. "Football. I'm trying to get Xander to play, were a guy down." Ryder tells my sister, who nods.

"Yeah, I can't play. Rose takes all my attention," She smiles at Ryder, who shakes his head.

"Yeah. Kelsy here," Ryder says, kissing her cheek, "Is one of the best players we had,"

"You play?" I asked my sister, shocked that she even likes the sport. She nods, "Yeah. Did you think you were the only one who likes sports?"

I nod, "Yeah, I didn't think you would be into that stuff," I say honestly.

"She's almost as good as you were, Brinley," Ryder teases Kelsy. I laugh at the face she gives him. If looks could kill, he'd be dead.

"You play football?" Xander asks.

I shake my head, "I used to, but Gabriel got upset that I was better than him and wouldn't let me play anymore,"

Xander looks at Ryder, "Is Gabriel playing tomorrow?" Ryder nods, "Yeah, he plays on the team we are playing against," He smiles at Xander, "Did you change your mind?"
