In Dream Garden. If Sheryl and Nancy weren't there, Leila wouldn't have taken Melissa to the hospital. During the operation, Leila kept wondering what she was going to do if Melissa survived the surgery.
She quivered in fear at the mere thought of Melissa waking up and accusing her of murder.
The entire two hours that Melissa was in surgery, Leila just worried. When she was told that Melissa was possibly going to become a vegetable, she heaved a sigh of relief. This was the best news she had received in a long while.
Sheryl sat beside Melissa's bed with a blank look on her face. She didn't know what to make of this whole situation. Melissa, who was normally arrogant around her, was now a vegetable. Suddenly, she felt her heartbroken. While they didn't have a good relationship, Melissa was still Charles' mother and her kids' grandmother. She couldn't help but be emotional.
"Leila, if something happens to Melissa, Charles won't ever let you get away with this." As she thought of what Leila had done, she decided Leila didn't deserve any mercy from her.
"Sheryl, you're just projecting your guilt on me. You're the one who pushed Aunt Melissa down the stairs. Why are you putting the blame on me?" Leila acted as if she was the victim.
In the doctor's office
"Doctor, is there anything we can do to wake my mother up?" Charles didn't know what to do. He couldn't let this happen to Melissa. She'd been through so much, and he didn't want her to suffer anymore.
The doctor frowned as he raised his hand to rest his chin on it for support. After a pause, he then responded slowly, "Mr. Lu, there's nothing to worry about yet. The patient's stable for now. We'll check on her again in a few days to see if she'll wake up."
Charles figured the doctor had nothing else to say to him, so he bowed and said thanks before leaving for Melissa's room.
In Melissa's room
"Leila, stop this act! You've almost killed someone. What else do you want?" Sheryl looked at her doubtfully and guessed if they weren't in the hospital, Leila would have already beaten her up.
"What act? Sheryl, how dare you say that to me? You're just jealous. You're jealous of me because Charles is with me now, and Aunt Melissa likes me better than you. You wanted her gone because we didn't want you to see Charles, right? You went too far. You didn't have to do that. Now you've almost killed Aunt Melissa. She's your kids' grandmother! Why would you do that?"
Leila didn't hold back as she spoke. She put on a frown and acted as if she was upset about this whole thing.
She approached Melissa and held her hand, making it look like she was family, and Sheryl was the outsider.
Just as Sheryl was about to say something, Charles arrived.
Leila quickly approached Charles, with tears in her eyes. "Charles, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. I just didn't want Sheryl to cause any problems in Dream Garden. I didn't expect she would go as far as to push Aunt Melissa down the stairs. I'm so sorry. I tried my best..."
Leila sobbed so hard that her body trembled. Even Sheryl was almost convinced to believe her.
"Are you saying that Sheryl pushed my mother down the stairs? What on earth happened?" Charles looked at Leila nervously, waiting for a response.
Leila sobbed and told Charles about what had happened. Of course, most of the story was made up of lies. She was good at that.
Sheryl merely looked at Charles. She was excited to see him for the first time after he came back. She couldn't believe she was standing in front of him, and he was alive and well. She couldn't help but shed a few tears.
