“Crap! My dad’s going to have a fit!” Daniel thought 

Fearing he’d wake Brittany, Daniel hustled to the bathroom and picked up the phone after taking a deep breath. 

On the phone. 

“Daniel Salter, where on earth have you been?” 

Daniel, looking at Isaac on the video call, turned ghost white. “Dad, I’m out.” 

“Off to see your mom again?” Isaac’s head was pounding with irritation. His son was making a run for it just when he’d finally returned home! 

“I’ll be right back. Fearing Isaac’s wrath, Daniel gave in. 

“Text me your location. I’ll come pick you up.” 

He was indeed intrigued to find out who that woman was that Daniel was constantly seeking. 

“No can do, dad. You promised not to stand in my way of being with mom.” 

Daniel began to panic. What would he do if his dad made things difficult for his mom? 

He couldn’t stand losing another mother! 

Seeing his son’s teary eyes, Isaac reluctantly said, ‘One hour. If you’re not home, don’t even think about going out for the rest of the year!”

Daniel left the bathroom, left a note for Brittany, and departed. 

He was out and about often and knew the way home like the back of his hand. 

Once he reached Radiant Residences and stepped inside, he was met with Isaac’s icy glare. 

“Dad.” Pale-faced Daniel carefully approached his father. “Please don’t be mad. I just wanted to see mom.” 

Isaac’s lips were a thin line. ‘Don’t go looking for her again.” 

Daniel didn’t agree.. 

Seeing his son’s defiant face gave Isaac a splitting headache, but his inner voice kept reminding him.

He crouched down to his level. “I’ve found your mom. If she found out that you were calling some random woman “mom”, she’d be heartbroken.” 

Brittany, who cared so much for Daniel, would be devastated if she found out he was calling some random woman ‘mom? 

Daniel pouted. “But my mom hasn’t come home yet. Granny Emily said that my mom had started a new life. Dad hasn’t found mom yet.” Isaac took a deep breath, led Daniel upstairs, and showed him a picture. “This is your real mom. Take a good look.” 

“Mom!” 

Daniel’s eyes sparkled at the sight of Brittany in the picture. “Mom!”

Daniel looked at Isaac, full of doubt. “Dad, why do you have a picture of mom?” 

“She’s your mom. Is it strange that I have her picture?” 

That was the only picture of Brittany He’d been clinging to it all those years.
