Isaac clutched Daniel’s shoulders tightly as Daniel spilled the whole story, ending with a pleading question, “Dad, Is she really my mom?” 

Only then did Isaac realize he’d been played by Derek Bishop. 

Brittany had seen Daniel before and even showed deep concern for him. Yet Derek knew that and deliberately kept Brittany’s real identity from him. 

From the beginning, Brittany had made contact with Daniel. In fact, the woman Daniel had been calling mom was her! Taking a deep breath, Isaac seriously answered Brittany, “Yes, she’s your mom.” 

Daniel’s mouth fell open, “But mom has a boyfriend” 

Mom’s boyfriend wasn’t his dad. 

Isaac felt the sting of betrayal once again. 

“Do you want your mom to come back?” 

“Of course.” 

‘Then can you do me a favor?” 

Daniel eyed Isaac uneasily, dropping the photo he was holding and pushing it towards him, “Are you going to lock my mom up?” 

If he misbehaved, dad would lock him up! 

If he dared to lock mom up, he would never let dad off the hook! 

“No. Do you want to move in with your mom right now?” 

“Yes.” 

“Then tonight, I’ll have someone take you there. From today on, you will stay in touch with me every day and follow your mom around all the time. Got it?” 

“Dad, are you asking me to spy?” 

Daniel was sharp. He knew dad wanted him to keep tabs on mom! 

“Yep, you’re in charge of sticking with her and keeping other men away. Can you handle that?” 

Daniel frowned, skeptical, “But she has a boyfriend.” 

He didn’t get why mom’s boyfriend wasn’t his dad. 

“If your mom gets a new boyfriend, she won’t come back to me, and you won’t get to see her all the time. Do you want your mom?” Isaac patiently explained. 

Daniel really wanted his mom. After hearing Isaac, he hastily replied. “Yes.” 

‘Then be a good boy. I made a mistake before, and your mom hasn’t forgiven me. You behave and stay with her. If she gets into trouble, you tell me right away, okay?” 

Daniel hesitated. ‘So you love mom?” 

“Of course. Adult stuff is complicated. I won’t harm your mom. You can move in with her and stay together every day. Isn’t that nice?” Thinking of Brittany’s warm embrace, Daniel’s emotions stirred, “Well… alright.” 

Isaac was pleased. That night, he sent Daniel to Brittany. 

Brittany woke up a little disheartened when she saw the note Daniel had left. 

Not long after, a young man showed up with Daniel, carrying a bunch of packages. “Ma’am, nice to meet you. I’m Daniel’s father. I need a favor.” 

He pulled out a wad of cash, eyes sincere, and said, ‘Miss, I have a business trip coming up, and I’m really worried about my son. He likes you a lot. Could you look after him for a while? Just a month at most.” 

Daniel stood behind his father, clutching a toy, and looked innocently at Brittany. 

He looked like a little lost puppy, curled up in a comer, pulling at the heartstrings. 

“Dad? How could you leave Daniel all by himself? And hand him over to me? Aren’t you worried I might harm him?”
