Thalassa's nerves were on edge, and her surprise was palpable as she gawked at Astrid. Just moments ago, her aunt was at odds with Dr. Funke, and now she was agreeing to go to a movie with him? What in the world was happening? Was it a case of 'opposites attract'?
Dr. Funke promptly whipped out his smartphone, purchased two tickets on the spot, and said to Astrid, “The mall's cinema, show starts in half an hour. Let’s head out.”
Astrid sprang to her feet, eagerly matching Dr. Funke’s pace. “Let’s hit the road!”
“Auntie...” Thalassa voiced her concern, attempting to follow.
Astrid halted, turning back to address her, “Thalassa, head back home, alright? I’ll watch the movie and have Dr. Funke drop me off afterward. You go catch some Z’s.”
With that, Astrid proceeded to follow Dr. Funke, leaving Thalassa behind.
Obediently, Thalassa didn't follow; understanding that tagging along on what seemed to be a date between Dr. Funke and her aunt would only make her a third wheel. As she watched Dr. Funke and Astrid exit the diner, Thalassa’s thoughts were a tangled mess of confusion and melancholy.
Today was supposed to be the day she had set Dr. Funke up on a blind date. How had her aunt become involved? She knew her aunt’s immediate acceptance was to spare Dr. Funke any embarrassment, thinking of Thalassa’s feelings first and foremost. Yet, it all felt so bizarre to her.
Thalassa took a deep breath, adjusted her mindset, turned around, and managed a polite smile, “May I know which aspects of the design Mr. Sinclair wishes to discuss?”
“Lysander left all the design materials with me. I’ll hand them over to you in a bit,” Rosalind chimed in. As soon as Rosalind finished speaking, Lysander’s deep gaze shifted towards her, his calm voice leaving no room for debate, “Give me the materials, and you head back.”
Despite Lysander’s calm demeanor, a guilty Rosalind could immediately tell from his tone that he was both displeased and angry with her. A sinking feeling took hold of her, making her feel miserable as she attempted to argue, “Lysander, I’m not tired, I promised to be with you today…”
Lysander’s sharp and imposing look silenced her mid-sentence, scaring her into silence. She could tell, Lysander was genuinely angry! Because he had seen through her lies! It was Thalassa who had looked after him for three years, not her!
