"Pfft!" Hertha nearly burst into laughter. Lydia was something else – mostly quiet, but when she spoke, she could really crack you up.
Alaric quickly said, "Didn't you see I was just confessing my feelings to Hertha? How could I possibly have something going on with a guy?"
"The way you two were talking earlier, it was so flirty, I thought there was something real between you," Lydia said.
"That's just deep friendship," Alaric, propping himself up on the bed with his hands, made sure to sit up straight, worried Hertha might misunderstand something.
When Ethan had come over earlier, their conversation might have been a bit too heartfelt, but that was just their usual banter. They never thought much of it.
Lydia’s comment made Alaric suddenly realize she might have gotten the wrong idea.
As they were talking, there was a noise at the door, and everyone fell silent, turning to look.
In came Ethan, carrying a bag of medicine, his eyes lighting up with joy at the sight of Thalassa and Hertha.
"Thalassa, Hertha, you guys finally made it!"
His original intention in calling Thalassa was to have him bring Hertha over to visit Alaric. Turns out, it wasn't a misunderstanding; it was a strategic move.
"Mr. Ethan, what happened to your eye?" Thalassa exclaimed in surprise.
Lydia coughed into her fist, not waiting for Ethan to speak, she took the lead, "I did that."
Seeing this, Thalassa and Hertha exchanged looks, both their eyes sparkling with amusement. Their glances seemed to say, there's definitely something going on between those two.
"Hand over the medicine, and let's get him to take it now," Lydia commanded Ethan.
Ethan, without delay, brought the bag of medicine over to Alaric's bedside, opened it, and offered it to Alaric, "Here, take your medicine, you'll feel better after."
As Ethan leaned in, Alaric recoiled, suddenly finding the situation awkward. Had Lydia not insinuated something about their relationship, Alaric might not have noticed anything. But now, with that thought in his mind, he felt uncomfortable all over as Ethan got closer.
"I'll do it myself," Alaric said, taking the medicine bag from Ethan's hand.
