What Evelyn cared about most was Charlie. As long as Charles had Charlie in his grip, he had her, too. It was all part of his master plan. He never once thought about Charlie's own feelings.

Evelyn looked up, locked eyes with Charles, and said slowly, emphasizing each word, "Charles, listen up. I'm not your property, and Charlie isn't your bargaining chip!"

Her last words were almost spat out, her heart heavy with bitterness. She couldn't stop her eyes from welling up.

"Charles, why could Charlie have a dad like you?"

Charlie was just five, and this was the first time Charles claimed he missed her. However, it wasn't because he longed to see her. It was all for his own gain.

"What? After five years, you suddenly think I'm not good enough and want to find Charlie a new dad? Did you even ask Charlie? Would she agree?"

Charles' presence was intimidating. Was Evelyn really catching feelings for Brooks and going to be with him?
