Charles noticed Evelyn opened her eyes. He spoke in a deep voice, "Is it so hard to ask for my forgiveness?"

Just a little humility, and she wouldn't have to be taken away by the police.

Evelyn's eyes turned cold. Her cheeks, cleaned and medicated after a bath, weren't as painful anymore, but what she experienced in the detention center was still vividly etched in her mind.

Evelyn raised her hand and fiercely swatted Charles' hand away. Her face turned cold. "Charles, I would ask anyone but you. Stop pretending to care. I don't need it."

"Evelyn, you are so ungrateful!" Charles' expression suddenly darkened.

"Oh, I'm ungrateful?" Evelyn let out a cold laugh, but her eyes remained unamused. "Charles, you had someone slap me then came here to take care of me, and I'm supposed to be grateful to you?"

"The detention center wasn't my doing."

For the first time, Charles offered an explanation to Evelyn.

Evelyn paused for a moment upon hearing this, but in an instant, the corners of her lips turned into a grimace.

Charles said it wasn't him and she believed him. For her, Charles had no reason to lie because it wasn't necessary.
