"Buried? Evelyn,do you have to curse your daughter like that every day?" Charles' face was as cold as frost, and his voice as chilling as if it came from hell itself.

Evelyn's body swayed, on the verge of collapse, as she stared at her daughter's photo on the bedside table with eyes red from crying.

The direction her daughter was looking in was exactly where Charles stood. Since Charlie was born, no matter how coldly Charles treated her, she still deeply loved her father.

In this moment, Evelyn saw her daughter's gaze and felt as if she could see the hope in her daughter's eyes.

Charlie hoped her father would accompany her on her last journey, allowing her to be reborn without any regrets.

Evelyn reached out to grasp Charles’ arm and turned to look at him. For Charlie's sake, she spoke again, "Charles, I'm telling the truth. Charlie really..."

Charles lowered his gaze to meet Evelyn's tear-soaked eyes. The pain in them was so genuine it reminded him of the day of the design competition awards. He had been deceived by such eyes then.

"Evelyn, you're beyond help!"

Charles jerked his arm away from her, his movement so forceful that the pendant he always carried was flung out, striking Evelyn's face.

She instinctively turned her head to dodge, but it still struck her near the eye. "Ouch," she gasped in pain.

The pendant landed on the bed, and when Evelyn saw it, she paused for a moment as something flashed through her mind. She instinctively reached out to pick it up to see it clearly.

"Don't touch it." Charles snatched it back. He carefully and dearly put it back on, giving her a cold glance before turning and leaving without looking back.

...

After hearing the door close, Evelyn's body relaxed, and she lay down on Charlie's bed, staring at Charlie's photo on the bedside table as her eyes reddened even more. Tears welled up, and she began to sob silently.
