Carmen sat in her chair, eyes coldly fixed on Evelyn. She found Evelyn’s face irksome from the first glance.

She looked too much like that woman.

Evelyn stood still, not moving. She swallowed down the words she had to prove she wasn’t guilty.

In the Jenkins family, Carmen hated Evelyn the most.

Evelyn had thought that today, at the very least, Charles would give her a chance to explain. She never expected that he still took Dahlia and her daughter's words as gospel.

Evelyn didn’t even get a chance to defend herself.

She pressed her lips tightly together, fighting the sense of powerlessness within her. She was facing an opponent with backing and found it hard to move forward.

She despised Evelyn to the core.

Sena had come to the Jenkins family with her mother when she was little. Sena’s mother told her to win over her grandmother, but Rosa didn’t like her. Rosa preferred Evelyn instead.

Rosa would protect her at every turn. It wasn’t just Rosa. Even Charles was openly and secretly guarding Evelyn. Over the years, Sena had never gained the upper hand over Evelyn.

Today presented such a good opportunity. She wouldn't let Evelyn off.

Sena strode behind her, lifted her leg, and fiercely kicked Evelyn’s knee.

Evelyn was hurt and bent her knee. With a thump, she knelt on the cold ground.

Evelyn immediately tried to stand, but two servants harshly pressed her down, forcibly keeping her on the ground. She struggled but was pinned down tightly, unable to move.

Carmen commanded sharply, "Use the ruler."

At her command, a servant immediately went to one side to pick up a long ruler. They repeatedly and harshly whipped it across Evelyn’s back.

"Ugh." Evelyn clenched her teeth, refusing to let herself cry out.
