Then, he ended the call.

Before leaving, Charles dropped a cold sentence. "Evelyn, if you want to play this, I won’t pick up Charlie’s call again."

He turned and left without hesitation.

Just as Charles stepped out, a loud thud sounded from behind him. Instinctively turning back, he saw Evelyn, who had been fine moments ago, now lying on the ground with her back to him.

"Evelyn, I warned you not to use these low tricks in front of me."

Evelyn lay on the cold floor, her consciousness not yet fully faded. Hearing Charles' words, she felt a bone-chilling chill surge through her body. Clearly, he thought she was faking fainting to keep him there.

In his eyes, Evelyn was just a malicious woman who would stoop to any level for him.

Five years ago, he believed she tried to break him up with Dahlia and drugged him on his and Dahlia’s anniversary. She slept with him and drove Dahlia away. Dahlia was left to fend for herself abroad, giving birth prematurely to Sandy, who was frail and suffered greatly.

Five years later, Dahlia returned to the country with Sandy.

Charles believed Evelyn had encouraged Charlie to fake an illness to vie for attention against the genuinely ill Sandy, driven by jealousy.

Evelyn couldn’t explain what happened five years ago.

But she had tried more than once to explain to Charles that Charlie wasn't faking her illness. She was truly sick.

Charles would never believe her.

Evelyn tried to get up, about to tell Charles to leave, but her body was weak and powerless, and her attempt to move made her dizzy, and she fell into unconsciousness.

Outside, Charles saw Evelyn motionless and frowned. He strode back and pulled her up from the ground.

"Evelyn, don't think just because grandma is protecting you, I wouldn't lay a hand on you!"

Before Charles could finish his cold, heartless words, he noticed Evelyn, whom he had just pulled up, slump down again as he loosened his grip.

Everyone said Charles was dead, but Rosa didn’t give up. She insisted on searching for half a year and finally found him in Twin Bridges.

Charles had lost his sight when he was found, and his personality became unpredictable. He was prone to mood swings.

Rosa sought out famous doctors, and after half a year of treatment, Charles was cured.

The first thing Charles did after regaining his sight was to have the bodyguard who brought him back drive him to Twin Bridges.

For the first time since he was found, Charles had a spark in his eyes.

However, when Charles came back, the light in his eyes was gone again. He couldn't find the mother and daughter who had saved him. They had suddenly moved away and disappeared without a trace.

Since then, the last bit of warmth in Charles had faded. He became even more indifferent and aloof, keeping people at a distance.
