Serenity’s birthday arrived. Jax threw a lavish party for her. When she came

down, Jax was waiting. She looked at him; her eyes were unusually calm, almost

lifeless. Jax’s heart skipped a beat. Serenity was always vibrant. Since when did

she look so pale?

He reached for her, but she evaded him. Her voice was hoarse.

“I’m not feeling well. Don’t touch me, or you’ll get sick.”

At the party, Serenity was like an outsider. She just coldly watched Jax

celebrate and tell others how much he loved her. The last part was his gift- a

priceless, antique ring. Everyone gasped. She lowered her eyes to hide her

sarcasm, refusing to take the ring. Jax assumed she was unwell, so he ended the

party early and took her home.

As he dropped her off, his phone rang. He apologized.“Serenity, I have

something to handle. Take a good rest, and I will come back to when I am

finished.”

She nodded. He kissed her and left. Rylee’s text followed immediately.

“Follow him. You’ll see surprise.”

Serenity followed Jax. He stopped his car outside Rylee’s house and rushed

inside. He was so anxious that the door was ajar. Serenity walked over and saw

12:33.

<<

may not be Jax’s fiancee, but you’re my daughter–in–law once the baby

arrives.”

Serenity couldn’t bear it anymore; she turned and kept running until she fell.

Lightning cracked the sky and rain poured down, blurring her vision.

She thought of Jax’s first family gathering. Jax’s mother had given her the

same bracelet. His friends had called her Mrs. Landry. Now, they welcomed

another woman into the family. They’d all kept Rylee a secret. She was the only

one in the dark.

She sat on the curb, the rain soaking her. No one came to give her a hand.

The storm mirrored the turmoil inside her.
