It wasn’t me at the door.
It was Jane, his assistant.
She handed him a package. “Mr. Sterling, your courier. It seems to be from your house. I though you might need it urgently, so I brought it over.”
Hearing “from home,” Liam immediately thought of me.
He tore open the package. A divorce agreement stared back at him.
My signature was already there.
I’d asked for nothing; a complete renunciation of assets.
The blow was devastating. Liam stumbled back, Jane catching him. She stared at the papers, her face a mask of disbelief.“Mrs. Sterling… wants a divorce?”
Every woman in the city envied me. Liam was the perfect husband; even with my paralysis, he’d never wavered, showering me with affection.
Jane, as his assistant, had witnessed Liam’s devotion: leaving work on time, reporting to me on business trips, bringing me to every gala.
If I was even slightly unwell, he’d rush home.
He’d even hired a dedicated medical team to treat my legs.
How many women had a husband like mine?
Jane didn’t understand why I’d file for divorce.
But Liam did.
He’d betrayed my love. Everyone saw him as the perfect husband, but no one knew I was the perfect wife.
I’d unconditionally accepted his moods, meticulously planned our meals, hand–washed and ironed his clothes, and prepared his outfits every morning.
