A week later, the divorce was final. I started packing. Caleb got me a
high–fashion dress, asking me to attend a party at Judith’s place.
I found it ironic. Legally, we were divorced, but he had no idea about this
and still expected me to function as Mrs. Hayes. I wanted to refuse, but his
mother still had some of my things, and I really thanked her for taking care of me.
So, I agreed.
The mansion was extravagant. Olivia was surrounded by wealthy ladies.
“Wow, Olivia, Mr. Hayes loves you so much!”
“This ring is from Sotheby’s! A symbol of unique love! Mr. Hayes bought it
for you!”
“He still loves you! I remember he used to walk you to school every day. He
put chocolates and candies in your desk. One time you two had a fight, and he
tried everything to make it up to you. To make you forgive him, he even asked me
for advice! He’s so devoted to you…”
“Get together! Get together!”
I stood in the corner, watching and listening to them talk about how much
my husband loved someone else.

“Sarah,” a voice rang out. It was Judith, Caleb’s mother. She gave me my
documents. “I’ve arranged everything for you. Your flight is in three hours. Do
you need anything else?”
Thinking of being free, my hands trembled. I took a deep breath.“Thank you,
Judith. I have one last request. If Caleb asks about me, please say you don’t know.”
I didn’t want to see him again. Judith was surprised. “You didn’t tell him you
were leaving?”
Should I tell him I’d been pretending to love him? That everything I did for
him was because of a contract? That I was divorcing him and leaving forever?
“It’s unnecessary. I just want to leave, that’s it.” I said.
“You wanna leave?” It was Caleb’s voice. I turned, meeting his gaze. My heart
trembled. Judith quickly interrupted, “You heard wrong. What are you doing here?”
Caleb let it go.“Mom, it’s time for you to cut the cake.”
Judith refused, telling him that she didn’t feel well. Then, she went upstairs.
