ADESSA.

My mind was flying the whole time I was on Kael’s back. If he were not with me, I would think I was hallucinating, that all of this danger around me has resulted in my head going crazy.

But I knew everything was real. I felt it in my hands. I saw it with my eyes. And I heard Kael confirm it.

I healed him, but I had no idea how it was possible.

Kael opened the car’s passenger door and let me in before throwing his duffel bag at the back seat. We stopped to pick it up when we passed by the area where I left it, and he was able to change into his clothes after he shifted back into his human.

“I don’t know what I did there,” I told him the moment he started driving.

“Have you done it before? Am I aware that you could heal before I lose my memory?” He asked without looking at me, concentrating on navigating around bushes and trees.

“No. I have never done it before. This is the first time.”

“So I was the first one you healed.” He said, and a smile cracked on his face, which made me furrow my brows in confusion.

“Are you not worried?” I asked.

“Yes and no.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“I’m glad that you saved me. But I’m worried that that power will lead you to more danger.”

“I hope not. I can’t even get away from this danger yet.”

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought you here. I just thought Erika was a safe place.”

“I believed she was, but not Sasha,” I told him.

“I should have known better. I should have…”

“Can we stop talking about her for a moment?” I cut him off. “There’s nothing we can do about what she did. And I don’t want you to blame yourself. It was her, not you.”

“Right. No more Sasha.” He let out a sigh. “No one should know that you healed me.”

I didn’t reply and just looked out the window. We drove in silence until I couldn’t hold my curiosity anymore. “Do you still feel pain, or is it gone?”

“Totally gone. Even the pain of hitting my back when I was thrown off was gone. I felt refreshed and renewed.”

“I’ve been trying to order my hands to warm or produce that smoke I saw earlier, but nothing is happening,” I admitted as I stared at my hands.

Wolf Shifters never had any gifts aside from their strength and heightened senses when in wolf form. So, it was impossible that the power to heal came from me.

“If I’m right, you might be a Fire Wolf.”

“A what? I don’t even have a wolf.”

Kael didn’t reply, but his forehead was creasing.

“Kael? What is a Fire Wolf?”

“I have never met one, as not everyone knows who and where they are. But they did teach us in the Alpha Academy about the Four Wolves of the Lunar World.”

I swallowed. I’d heard of them but thought they were only myths, as no one talked openly about them.

“The Earth, Air, Water, and Fire Wolves. There’s only one of each in a lifetime. Once the Lunar Wolf dies, it is passed on to a new one.”

“The Lunar Wolves are a myth.”

“Says who?”
