ADESSA.

“I will make sure your perfect little wife will bow down to me and eat whatever fucking thing I serve her! And I will make you watch it…” Alpha Draco's words echoed in my head.

Goosebumps rose from my skin as cold chills ran down my spine. I tried not to be frightened, but hearing him talk like that was like hearing a devil come to life.

I coiled my hands into tight fists to stop my body from trembling. And Kael saw that.

He kept looking at me as he spoke back to him. “Over my dead body, fucker. Stay on your line, or hide. Because this time, I’ll be the one hunting you!”

He didn’t allow him to respond. After he was done talking, he dropped the call and threw the phone onto the dashboard before stepping on the brakes, halting the car.

He turned to look at me and reached for my hand. “Adessa, look at me!”

My eyes were watering, and I knew my tears would fall if I turned to him. I didn’t want to cry anymore.

“Adessa, look at me.” He repeated, softer this time.

But as much as I didn’t want to, my body betrayed me. I slowly tilted my head to look at him, tears streaming down my face.

He cupped my face and tried to wipe my tears with his thumb. “I meant what I told him. I will not let him take you.”

“What if there are more people coming after us? What if they separated us like what almost happened tonight?” My fears were real. Everything was too much. I just wanted a simple life, and my life at the moment was so far from it. “I don’t know what to think about this, but what if you’re not here? Maybe he had taken me already…”

“I’m here, Adessa. Death is the only thing that could take me away from you, but like Draco feared, I have too many lives. I don’t mind using all of them to save you from this madness.”

I nodded my head before forcing a small smile to flash on my face. “Just stay with me, and I promise, whatever catastrophe that will come your way, I will save you, too. I will use all the healing power I have to save you.”

“We’ll be a team to beat then.” Kael smiled back, wiping the tears that fell on my lips with his thumb. “Who would have guessed this little sunshine in my arms held so much power within her?”

I chuckled softly. I had no idea how my healing power worked, but I would do my best to protect Kael with it.

His eyes softened before his whole expression turned serious. “You’re mine, Adessa.”

I felt a tightening around my throat. I took a short intake of breath before I murmured a reply. “I’ve been yours, Kael. Ever since I said, “I do,” at the altar.”

My lips trembled as I stared at his piercing eyes, not knowing if my confession was a good thing or not.

He leaned closer, and then heat rose from my stomach up to my chest. My heart skipped a beat as I watched his lips close in. And the very moment his lips brushed against mine, time stood still and collided with my senses.

I closed my eyes as my lips moved in rhythm with his while my mind was screaming for me to tell him how much I loved him.
