ADESSA.

We finally reached the regular road, and in no time, we were driving into the city. I kept looking back, checking if anyone was following us, but everything seemed normal so far.

“You can sleep,” Kael told me.

“I’m not that sleepy anymore. I will rest once we transfer to another car. I’m not comfortable here.”

He simply nodded his head and continued driving. Kael called someone after his call with Rasmus, and we got confirmation for a new car we could use once we reached that place. And from there, it would just be a couple of hours before we reached the North.

It was noon, and my stomach was churning from hunger, but I didn’t say anything. I wanted to have a new car first. So when we finally reached the car dealer building, Kael wasted no time and grabbed the keys, and we were already on our way out.

He was holding my hand, and we were walking to the big parking lot where they pointed when my head suddenly felt light, and I almost stumbled if Kael was not able to hold me steady.

“Are you okay?” He asked, his brows furrowing.

I nodded. “I think I’m hungry.”

“We’ll buy food along the way.” He smiled at me before he wrapped an arm around my body as we walked toward the car.

“Kael, what if I’m pregnant?” I blurted out.

I felt his body freeze, and we both stopped walking. My eyes watered as I knew this was not the right time to check, but not knowing if I was pregnant was killing me.

Kael could be upset, as he was clear with me during our marriage that we were not ready for a baby yet. Or he could also question me about who the father is. But I had to know because if I am, I want to make sure my baby is okay.

“Have you missed your period?” He asked as he turned to face me. I couldn’t fathom his expression.

I nodded.

“We can buy a pregnancy stick along the way. I’m not sure if there’s any shop nearby…”

“Are you not upset? Or are you not going to ask if it’s yours?”

A smile crept on his face, and my eyes watered more. I knew right there and then that my worries were irrelevant.

“I know it’s mine. Unless I misheard you when you said you never had sex with anyone.” He told me.

“Are you okay with a baby? With me?”

His smile widened as he cupped my cheeks. This time, I didn’t stop myself from smiling. His happy expression was so contagious that at that moment, I forgot about the danger and secretly wished I were really pregnant. “Of course. I want a baby with you. It might not be ideal at the moment, but we can’t tell our baby to go anywhere else. It’s ours.”

I nodded my head and wrapped my arms around him, hugging him tightly.

“We need to know, and if you are, we need to get you warmer clothes before we reach the North. It’ll be a lot colder there.” He was hugging me tightly before he prepared my cheeks with kisses. “Now let’s get you something to eat and that stick.”

ALPHA DRACO

Alpha of the Knight’s Stone Pack

It had been hours since that call with Kael, and I still couldn’t get over it.

Kael always seemed to be a step ahead of me all the time. Like he always was, even when we were younger.

Kael and I were almost the same age. He was older by a few months, and as much as I didn’t want to believe it, it seemed I was conceived so I could be a shadow of him.

My father was madly in love with Kael’s mother, Luna Liana. But she chose Alpha Khalid, Kael’s father.

My father had no option but to choose another Luna. My mother became pregnant, and I was born. But ever since I was able to grasp words, I was already compared to Kael.

Kael could do this and achieve this. That I was mediocre. That I should do more of this or that.

My father always pointed out that everything I am was of my mother and that I could have been better. It would hurt me while growing up until I learned to swallow everything and just let his words slide in my ears.

But then Luna Liana died, and even though it was already many years since she chose another man, my father still grieved for her. He even blamed my mother for causing her death. He was delusional, thinking it was Mom that caused the fire.

My mother died a few months after Luna Liana’s death. She took her own life and left me without a mother, without anyone on my side.

It was after my mother’s death that my father brought Samuel in. He was my half-brother from a woman my father had gotten pregnant.

Samuel was a piece of shit, and we never got along well. I sent him to pick up Adessa to give her a bad experience. But I didn’t know she could outwit and kill him.

Good for him. The world didn’t need another stupid bastard.

As for my father, I banished him from my territory the moment I took over as Alpha.

He couldn’t believe what I did. But I didn’t explain anything. It was enough that he paid for what he did to me—for ruining my whole life.

He was the reason I’d been trying to push Kael to the bottom from day one. But regardless of my father being gone from my life, the obsession to be better than Kael didn’t stop. Especially the fact that he seemed to find a woman he wanted to be with while I was left alone by the only one I ever paid attention to.
