ADESSA.

After I told Kael that I might be pregnant, I started to relax.

In fact, I began to feel excited.

I didn’t expect his reaction, which made everything perfect. Earlier, he told me he loved me, and his reaction to the pregnancy news supported that claim.

Despite the fact that he couldn’t remember me, it was enough that he wanted me in his life, and he wanted to have a baby with me.

We bought the pregnancy test kit and stopped by a fast-food restaurant.

Kael ordered our food while I went to the restroom. He wanted to see the results with me, but he was taking too long to get here, and the results were ready.

The line at the counter might be long, so I had to check this on my own.

My hand trembled as I raised the test stick in my hand.

I was wrong. I wasn’t pregnant.

I took a deep breath just in time for a knock to come. I lowered my hand and opened the door.

Our gazes met, and I could still see the excitement in his eyes. I didn’t want to prolong the suspense for him.

“I’m not pregnant,” I informed him before he could ask while trying to keep a straight face.

His face fell, and it told me how disappointed he was.

“I’m sorry. I overreacted. I thought, I thought I was. I never skip a period, and I’ve been crying a lot lately. Like all I have done is cry since you found me at the hostel. I thought…” I was stammering while fighting my tears from falling. “But maybe it was the stress, so I missed my period, and I… I don’t know what made me think it was like that.”

Kael gently pushed me back as he entered the toilet with me, locking the door behind him before he spoke. “I’m not upset with you. Yes, I’m a little disappointed, but not with you. I’m sorry for the disappointment that showed in my expression. Like you, I was looking forward to this baby, but you know what? There’s nothing there because it’s not the right time yet. We need to get out of this mess first, and then we can try again. We won’t stop trying until I get my little Adessa in my arms.”

“Kael, don’t make me cry…”

“We can also have little Kael. One or two, maybe more.” He cupped my face as he continued speaking. “Nothing changes, Adessa. You’re still mine.”
