"Mathieu it is, then"

Mathieu's P.O.V

I woke up slowly, and discovered that I was still lying with my head in Clarina's lap. I looked up and couldn't hide the love in my eyes. I had shown myself to her as myself. My human, Matthew, and I had followed her when she left the house; I just had to make sure she reached home safely. It hurt us to see how ashamed she seemed while leaving our room early in the morning, as though she wasn't proud that she had been with us. But we couldn't let her disappear without making sure that she got home safely. My human had kept Simon back when he tried to go after Clarina, and had followed her himself, although we were aware that Matthew was the last person she would want to see at that point of time.

As Clarina went into the woods and ended up finding the entrance to our oasis, which we had found as a puppy, it surprised us; many people had gone through this forest, but had never discovered the entrance. But our mate saw it right away. We kept an eye on her while she took in the whole scenario around her and can't help but smile at her childish delight at what she saw. As Clarina lied down and fell asleep, we stayed where we were to make sure she was safe.

After about an hour we couldn't hold back any longer, and because we knew that she wouldn't like to see Matthew, he let me take over before we stepped forward into the clearing; but as soon as she opened her eyes, we knew that we'd messed up. This wasn't a good idea; I thought to myself, a human cannot possibly be calm after coming face-to-face with a giant wolf. I stopped as Clarina saw me, and tried to prevent her from getting scared of us. But I realized my attempt was futile as she hysterically crawled away from us. She was afraid of us, and I couldn't help myself as a whimper left my throat; what kind of mate are we, a mate who scares the girl he is supposed to love and protect for the rest of our life. First we use her while she is defenseless, and now we terrify her. I lied down on my stomach with my head between my paws. I heard my mate moving again, I looked towards her and made eye contact with her, and something about my position may have influenced her, because slowly she came out from behind the rocks.

"You will not hurt me will you?", she asked. And I tried to make her understand, in my wolf form that, I will never hurt her. I was still on my stomach and was looking at her, when she touched me lightly; I couldn't hold back a purr that left my mouth. I could feel Matthew also welcoming this new development. Neither of us had expected such courage from our little mate, the fact that she has so much confidence in us that she dared to touch us in wolf form is indescribable.

"How did you ...? No matter ... I have to go now, I'm happy that we met each other, maybe we'll see each other again?"She said in a questioning tone, and I nodded my head enthusiastically. Clarina grinned and cocked her head.

"It's unbelievable, it really is as if you understand what I'm saying, and that we can communicate with each other ... I'll probably soon wake up, and realize that this was all a dream"
