I caught the flash of disappointment on Richard's face.

He wanted to curry favor with me, but he should first have a good look in the mirror.

"Mr. Yale, I heard that you and Joplin Group have a new deal going on, but you haven't signed the contract?"

The business he was dealing with was with Hayden, but I had no idea about the details. Judging by Richard's grim expression, I guessed that the deal was not going well.

"Mr. Yale, if you trust me, I could help you test the waters and ask around."

I looked at him, causing him to be slightly alarmed. Smiling, I added, "Don't worry. You won't lose out on anything."

At this point, if he still did not understand where I was going with that, he had to be feigning ignorance.

A few minutes later, Richard smiled and got up. He looked much more relaxed—excited even. "Thank you so much, Mr. Joplin."

"My pleasure."

Half an hour later, I received Hannah's letter of resignation.

When it came to profits, even one's own daughter was not important.

Hayden and Richard's contract was much more complicated than I expected. Richard was quite a dirty businessman, which was also why Hayden refused Richard's business deal.

"You know as well that Richard Yale did not use to be a businessman. How could I not know about his schemes?"

All he wanted to do was take advantage of the Joplin family to gain some profit. Everybody wanted money. The past business partners of Joplin Group had done the same thing.

If it was a small number, we could still turn a blind eye, but Richard was extremely greedy. There was no guarantee in his projects, and we could not let him ruin our reputation.

Hayden looked at me with a smile, looking like he was gloating. "What? Did you promise him something?"

Hayden snickered as he sized me up. "You'd really do anything to make Hannah leave."
