Left with no choice, Maeve dragged Aeolian into the woods by the side of the road. They used the dense foliage as cover to delay the kidnappers from catching up. 

Aeolian was well aware of their current situation. She did not want to be captured by the kidnappers and be sold to the underground city as a plaything, so she followed Maeve and ran as fast as she could. 

Maeve was not worried that Acolian would drag her down or play any tricks. If she dared to do so, Maeve would abandon her. 

In a life–and–death situation, Maeve did not have the heart of aint to protect someone who had once tried to harm her. 

Fortunately, Aeolian behaved well along the way. 

However, they had to come up with something else aside from running endlessly. When their stamina was exhausted, the kidnappers would catch up to them eventually. 

Maeve decisively jumped down a slope. Then, she turned around and saw Acolian standing on top of the slope with a terrified expression. Maeve urged, Jump! What are you dawdling for?” 

“No.” Aeolian’s face turned pale as she confessed. “I’m afraid of heights!”

Acolian could briefly smell the fragrance of roses coming from Maeve when she grabbed her. However, the fragrance was brief since Maeve let go of her almost immediately. 

Acolian’s legs were still weak, but she did not want to look weak in front of Maeve. She braced herself and followed Maeve 

In the past, Aeolian often made mistakes and received running as a form of punishment. Her physical fitness was better than that of ordinary girls. She was not panting even after running for so long

“Shut up if you have nothing nice to say,” Maeve said angrily. She quickly scanned the surroundings, looking for something that she could use 

Suddenly, she saw something. She took action immediately. 

Maeve forcefully pulled down the vines wrapped around a tree. She did not stop after pulling off a long strand of vine, continued to collect more.

“What are you trying to do?” asked Aeolian, confused. She would occasionally look behind them, afraid that the kidnappers would catch up to them the next second. 

Anxious and afraid, Aeolian lost control of her emotions. When she thought about how she would be sold to the rumored gloomy and terrifying underground city, tears streamed down her face. 

Maeve was speechless. She wondered, ‘What is the point of crying now? It’s not helping the situation. 

She ignored Acolian. She used the vines to circle between her armpits and legs, like she was preparing herself for a bungee jump. She ended with a slipknot. 

Then, she did the same thing to Aeolian and hung her off the edge of the cliff 

“W–What are you doing?” Aeolian thought that Maeve wanted to harm her. Overwhelmed by fear, Aeolian cried, “Even if I always find fault with you, I’ve never harmed you, right? Do you have to take revenge on me like this?” 

She threatened, “If my brothers find out about this, they won’t let you off!” 

Maeve’s eyes were cold as she said sternly, “If you don’t shut up and do as I say, we’ll both die 

For some reason, Aeolian shuddered and stopped squirming 

Maeve tied the other end of the vines firmly to the trunk of a tree. There was a thicket there that kept the vines out of view, 

Then, she slid down the cliff and was hung in midair like Aeolian 

Not long after, chaotic and noisy footsteps approached the cliff. 

Maeve could clearly hear the sound coming from the bushes. It was getting closer and closer. Any closer and the kidnappers would discover the vines tied to the tree. 

Maeve held her breath, not daring to move. Her heart was in her throat. 

She was afraid that Acolian would screw up at this critical moment, so she turned around and wanted to cover her mouth. She realized that Aeolian was covering her own mouth tightly while crying in silence, 

Maeve thought, I thought she was bold. With her limited courage, how did she think of hiring someone to harm me? 

The two vines swung together in mid–air. Even though Macve did not want to get close to Aeolian, she had no choice but to hug Aeolian’s waist with one hand in order to prevent the vines from making a sound. 

Aeolian was being honest to Maeve. She was indeed afraid of heights. If she hadn’t covered her mouth, she would be puking 

now. 

The faint fragrance of roses once again surrounded Aeolian when Maeve hugged her. There was also a hint of medicinal smell, making Aeolian feel safe for some reason.
