Sophia was shell-shocked.
In the split second she zoned out, Brandon had already spun around, pinning her against the bathroom wall. His tongue pried her lips apart, diving in deep, while his other hand clutched the collar of her light coat, along with the straps of her nightgown, and with a tug, her clothes slipped from her shoulders.
Sophia scrambled to grab his hand but found herself caught, her arms twisted and pressed against the wall above her head, as his kisses grew more intense, urgent, and assertive.
Her rational mind was on the brink of collapse under his relentless advance, and she was dangerously close to succumbing to the physical desire.
Brandon had taken her on a rollercoaster of sensations, both wild and tender.
In a flash, his ardor rekindled every memory of her body's longing, awakening a thirst within her.
Her body yearned for the exhilarating experiences Brandon had given her.
But Sophia knew she couldn't let it happen.
So, in the face of Brandon's fervor, she stayed passive and stiff, a tad bewildered.
Her bewilderment, however, stoked the primal beast within him.
Heavy breaths filled the confined space.
Brandon nearly nailed her to the wall with his kisses, growing increasingly profound, then slowly softened in response to her cluelessness, his nibbling turning into an unbearable caress.
"Sophia." Amidst their mingling breaths, Brandon murmured her name in a husky voice tinged with lust, his eyes blazing like they hid flames.
Sophia saw the desire in his eyes, and in them, the reflection of her own dazed self.
Her fleeting reason made a brief comeback only to be swept away again by Brandon's overbearing kiss.
He left no room for thought.
Two years of marriage, and he knew her body too well, knew exactly how to stir her desires.
Her logic crumbled bit by bit under his slow torment, the aroused hunger taking the upper hand. Her hands, previously dangling helplessly by her side, now found their way around his neck, her passive stiffness turning into an unconscious response of lips and teeth, which made Brandon completely lose his grip.
Quickly reclaiming control, he pushed her against the wall with even more force, deepening the kiss.
Heavy breaths mixed with the ambiguous sounds of their moist contact and the rustling of clothes.
The entanglement continued from the bathroom to the edge of the bed.
Brandon pressed Sophia hard into the mattress, his fingers interlacing with hers, pinning her hands firmly beside her head, his kisses turning into a desperate plea, his other hand impatiently tugging at their clothes. In the midst of the imminent spark, someone brushed against the nightstand, and the clatter of something hitting the floor cut through the quiet night, stark and clear.
Everything came to an abrupt halt.
Sophia instinctively looked at Brandon.
He was looking back at her, still pressing down, the lust in his eyes cooling but still apparent.
Sophia's muddled mind began to clear. She hesitated under his pinning hand, her intent to stop him now unmistakable.
Brandon glanced at her but didn't let go. The heat in his eyes turned cold, with a hint of reckless ferocity lurking beneath.
This sudden ferocity alarmed Sophia, her eyes widening in fear, her breaths halting.
Yet this reaction of hers provoked the latent fury within Brandon.
The grip on her wrist tightened suddenly as he leaned in once more, his lips almost touching hers again when he suddenly stopped.
He looked at her, then lay down beside her on the bed.
"Sorry," he said, his raspy voice now as calm as usual, as if the previous loss of control belonged to someone else.
Sophia pulled the blanket around herself a bit tighter.
"It's my fault too," she whispered, her breath still uneven from the turmoil, her hand clutching the blanket.
The disheveled clothes beneath the blanket reminded her of the control she had lost.
Embarrassment grew as her rationality returned.
This dream made her feel incredibly awkward when she saw Brandon the next morning.
"M-morning." Even her greeting was stammered.
Brandon gave her a curious look and greeted her in a cool voice. "Morning."
He was back to his usual indifference, last night's loss of control seeming like nothing but a wild dream for Sophia.
Sophia coughed lightly, suppressing her discomfort, her eyes unconsciously drifting towards the bathroom.
"Your toothbrush is in the rinse cup, the light aqua set, all brand spanking new." Brandon sauntered over, fished out a rinse cup and toothbrush from the medicine cabinet for her, and then turned to look at her, "What's the game plan after breakfast?"
"I'm heading to the hospital to see my dad," Sophia said. "He woke up last night."
Visiting hours were kaput at night at the hospital, and only one person could stick around for the night shift. Plus, with Laura flipping her lid, Sophia hadn't been able to stay either.
Brandon nodded, "I'll give you a lift after breakfast."
"No need." Sophia instinctively declined but hesitated when she caught the intense gaze Brandon suddenly threw her way. Eventually, under the weight of his piercing eyes, she gave a little nod, "Alright, I'll take you up on that offer then."
Brandon didn't say much, "Go freshen up first."
Sophia nodded lightly and went to wash up. By the time she was done, Brandon had breakfast ready and was already seated at the table.
Sophia took a seat across from him.
Without a word, Brandon pushed the milk and breakfast towards her.
Sophia accepted the meal in silence.
The breakfast went down with hardly any chit-chat.
After the meal, Brandon drove Sophia to the hospital.
As soon as Sophia got to the ward's door, she spotted Laura, who had just stepped out to fetch some water, causing her to pause in her tracks.
