"I'm going to take a nap," Sophia couldn't help but remind him.

"Go ahead. I won't bother you," Brandon said, already following her out the door without any hint of taking off.

"No, you don't get it," Sophia was a bit frazzled, "I mean I'm heading back to catch some sleep, probably for the rest of the day. What are you even doing here?"

Hanging out with someone who's sleeping is pointless.

"Don't worry about me, I've got my own schedule," Brandon reassured her, "Just focus on getting your beauty sleep."

"I can't sleep well with you around," Sophia admitted frankly.

Brandon glanced at her, "Sounds like a guilty conscience is keeping you up."

Sophia was at a loss for words.

Brandon's hand was already gently resting on her shoulder, nudging her forward as he spoke in a calm tone, "Instead of dilly-dallying here with me, you might as well head back and rest up."

"I remember a time when you weren't so keen on keeping me company," Sophia murmured, "Now that I'm practically gonna pass out, and you suddenly want to play the watchful guardian. Brandon, seems like you're the one with a guilty conscience."

"Alright, I'm guilty," Brandon admitted with ease, "I dropped the ball on looking after your feelings before. That's on me, so now I want to make it right."

"I don't need it anymore."

Pretending not to hear her, Brandon was already ushering her into the elevator.

As the elevator doors closed, Sophia saw his long fingers reaching for the keypad, hesitating slightly over the button for the 15th floor while his eyes glanced at the 18th.

Sophia promptly pressed the button for the 15th floor herself.

"Brandon, can you just not buy a place here?" she asked softly, "I really don't want to be neighbors with you."

He looked at her, "Is it that hard to stomach?"

Sophia nodded lightly, "Yes."

"I remember when you pushed me to take the design director position. You drove me to the airport that day and said that Don would be mainly handling the branch office, and you wouldn't be around much. The Zenitha-style resort project had its own team, so you told me not to worry about you and just do what was best for me," Sophia recalled, gazing at him, "But things are different from what you promised now."

"What's different?" Brandon asked calmly, "Don is indeed in charge of the branch office, and Kent is handling the Zenitha project. Since you've been back, I've been to your 17th-floor office less than five times. How is that any different from what I promised?"

"Go on," Brandon's voice softened, "I'll head down to the supermarket later and pick up some groceries to make lunch for you."

Sophia hesitated, then nodded again.

Brandon glanced at the computer in her living room, "Is the computer okay to use? I need to handle some emails later."

Sophia nodded, "Go for it, it's fine."

Her computer was all business, nothing personal. Any design projects that required confidentiality were already encrypted.

"Good," Brandon nodded slightly, looking at her, "Hurry up and sleep."

"Okay," Sophia nodded again and went back to her room.

When the door closed, she checked her phone. Susan had sent her a message about ten minutes ago, asking why she hadn't returned.

"Brandon's here," Sophia texted her back.
