Brandon hit up the local hospital to get that paternity test sorted out himself.
As he pulled out the sample from his pocket, he just stared at the tissue-wrapped evidence for an eternity, stone-faced, until a nurse on the edge of her seat couldn't take the suspense and nudged him to hand it over.
"I want the result as fast as possible," Brandon said, his voice frosty.
"Sure thing." The nurse gingerly took the sample from him.
Brandon gave the sample in her hands a final glance, paused for a beat, then left without a backward glance.
When he arrived at the complex, Sophia was already there waiting for him. She'd slipped into a fresh outfit, slapped on some makeup, and tamed her hair, looking a whole lot perkier.
Brandon popped the passenger door open, and Sophia hopped in.
Without missing a beat, Brandon drove straight to the Zenitha-style resort ground-breaking ceremony.
They were a bit early.
Brandon, being the CEO of the company, had to personally welcome the big shots.
"I gotta head in. Do you want to tag alone, or stay here?" Brandon asked Sophia as he parked.
"I'll stay out here," Sophia replied. "Mr. Dempsey's got other plans for me."
Brandon nodded, "Call me if you need anything."
Sophia gave a small nod back, "Will do."
She watched Brandon disappear into the venue, then turned to find Don outside.
After all, Martin was the mastermind behind this lousy idea last time.
With Daniel and Patricia not taking no for an answer, Don could only call Martin, "Have you lost your marbles again? You failed last time and dare to do it again ?"
Martin, who was on his way to the ceremony himself, snapped back, "What the hell? I haven't been in touch with Ms. Yearwood since that last mess, so this ain't on me, I'm clueless."
"You're clueless, huh? Who else would think of such a bad idea?" Don was fuming. "Brandon's folks are pressuring me to add her name on the designers’ list. What am I supposed to do, huh?"
"Do what you gotta do. Don't ask me."
"I'd love to not bother you, but who else am I gonna call for the mess you've made? Knowing full well Marian isn't Yolanda, you still had her pretending to be Yolanda. Now, look at this mess, and it has influenced my side of things."
Sophia's stride came to an abrupt stop.
