Kent escorted Sophia back to the lounge.
"Alright, Ms. Yearwood, kick back here for a bit. Holler at me if you need anything," Kent said with a smile to Sophia.
Sophia nodded, "Sure thing, thanks for the hassle, Kent."
"No sweat," Kent replied with a grin. "I'm gonna head off then. Take it easy."
With that, Kent left the room, thoughtfully closing the lounge door behind him.
He made his way back to the event.
Brandon was mingling, his handsome face carrying a faint, distracted expression.
As Kent approached, Brandon suddenly spoke up without looking at him, "Escorted Sophia back to the lounge?"
Kent nodded, "Yep, Ms. Yearwood's chilling in the lounge."
Brandon nodded back, his expression unchanged, looking as impassive as ever.
After resting in the lounge for a while, Sophia texted Don, [Mr. Dempsey, I'm feeling pretty wiped out. I'm gonna head out.]
Don, in the midst of small talk with guests, wasn't surprised by the message.
The foundation-laying ceremony was winding down, and it was indeed time for people to start heading out.
[Alright, go get some rest,] Don texted back swiftly. [Want me to get someone to give you a lift?]
[No need,] Sophia replied. [I'll just grab a cab. You guys stay busy.]
After sending the message, Sophia stood up and reached for the door, ready to leave. But as she pulled the door open, she nearly bumped into Brandon, who was standing right outside, causing her to halt abruptly.
Her voice faltered for a moment, "What are you doing here? Don't you need to schmooze with the guests?"
"No need," said Brandon, pushing the door open and walking in. "I'm gonna grab a breather."
As he spoke, he carelessly yanked off his tie, flinging it onto the nearby sofa and then plopping down at the other end, not even glancing at Sophia. He just lifted his hand and gently massaged his forehead with his long fingers.
Sophia gave a polite nod and turned to leave, but suddenly her wrist was seized. In a whirlwind, she was pulled onto Brandon, who rolled over and pinned her down on the sofa.
Sophia's instincts kicked in, and she struggled, but Brandon held her down firmly.
He just lay there motionless, looking at her, his face and eyes a deep, unfathomable calm.
Sophia's struggle gradually ceased.
Then, Brandon suddenly leaned in. Sophia instinctively turned her head, causing his lips to miss their target and land on the side of her neck instead.
He didn't move away but slightly parted his lips.
He bit down gently on her neck, very lightly.
The moist, warm sensation spread at that spot.
Sophia lay there tensed, daring not to move.
