"I didn't mistake you for someone else," Brandon finally broke the silence, his voice deep and gentle, "Sophia, even if I got the whole world wrong, there's no way I'd misidentify you."

Sophia's attempt at a smile kind of froze on her face.

"Oh, is that so..." she tried to pick her words carefully, "I kind of thought that between husband and wife... even with memory gone, there'd still be this natural vibe of affection."

She looked up at him with a sheepish grin: "But with you, it feels like I just can't warm up to you..."

Brandon managed a strained chuckle too: "Maybe it's because we've had our share of... let's say, not-so-great moments."

"What... kind of moments?" Sophia asked, puzzled, her wide eyes showing a hint of wanting to back away.

Her hesitation made Brandon's lips purse a bit tighter.

He hadn't figured out yet how to answer that question.

Sophia instinctively mumbled her thanks, and after saying it, she paused, yet it felt oddly normal.

The atmosphere in the room became a bit stiff.

"I'm... I'm sorry." Sophia blurted out an apology, "I..."

She didn't know what to explain. That momentary flight might just be because he was still a stranger to her.

Brandon smiled gently at her: "It's okay."

But Sophia felt inexplicably sadder, like she had unintentionally hurt him again.

"You..." she scrambled to make amends, "Could you tell me about us? What happened between us?"

She looked at him apologetically: "I'm sorry, I really don't remember anything."

Brandon simply smiled reassuringly: "It's okay, you'll slowly remember over time."

His comforting words soothed her a bit, and she nodded lightly.

"So, could you... give me a rough idea of what we were like together?"
