"Uh..." Sophia watched as Brandon carefully tucked Theresa in and hesitated before turning to point at the guest bedroom behind her, "I'm gonna crash in that room tonight, cool?"

Brandon glanced over in the direction she was pointing.

That room was temporarily Grace's crash pad, mainly for her to hang out and look after Theresa during the day while he was at work.

Grace's usual digs were upstairs near Susan's place.

The other room had been turned into a study.

When he found out Theresa was his kid, not wanting to push Sophia into a corner, she didn't want to move Theresa into his place, so he packed his stuff and moved in here.

The house wasn't anything to write home about, but it was plenty big for a family of three, not to mention there was another pad across the way for Sophia's studio.

"You and Theresa bunk here, I'll hit the sack in the study," Brandon said, already on his feet.

He had shown her around the house today, so Sophia knew the study didn't have a bed, just a single daybed for lounging.

She could manage on the daybed, but with Brandon's frame, it would be a tight squeeze.

"No worries, you should stick with Theresa here."

Sophia quickly chimed in, "Theresa's just a tot, and it's been ages since I've bunked with a little one. I'm not the most peaceful sleeper, might roll over and squash her, plus I've been out like a light lately. If she kicks off the covers, I'm afraid I wouldn't notice in time to cover her up."

The study was a no-go for Brandon, and the guest room had Grace's vibe – Sophia figured he might be iffy about that.

She was a gal too, so she didn't sweat it, making it make more sense for Brandon to stay in the master. Plus, Theresa was used to snoozing with him, and he knew the drill on how to look after her.

She was worried that once she hit the hay, she'd forget she had a daughter and revert to her old solo sleeping habits, rolling over without a care, possibly crushing Theresa without even realizing it.

She'd heard horror stories about parents accidentally suffocating their kids with pillows or blankets in their sleep.

The thought scared her that she could be that type of parent.

Brandon wasn't worried about her on that front, but she did remind him of something.

"Doesn't Grace usually bunk here?"

Sophia quickly bent down too, helping to straighten out the other corner of the sheet.

Brandon couldn't help but look over at Sophia.

There she was, bent over, quietly and diligently working away.

Brandon realized that as long as he didn't strike up a conversation, Sophia rarely ever initiated chit-chat.

This habit had stuck with her from the time they split up, all the way till now.
